Description
Up for auction is the extremely rare and sought after La Monte Young and Mariah Zazeela release “The Theatre of Eternal Music” on Shandar (83.510). Sleeve is in NEAR MINT condition, showing no visible signs of wear at all. Record is in NEAR MINT MINUS condition, it has no scratches, but has some small marks that do not affect play. Shandar was a French record label active in the 1970's, specialised in Avantgarde music. Shandar released several significant early minimalism recordings, free jazz excursions, and musical experiments. The label was founded by the Maeght Foundation, a private art gallery in Saint-Paul de Vence, France, owned by art collectors Aimé and Marguerite Maeght. Some of the records were issued with a few label color variations. The 10.000 series seem to be the first pressing: There were two logo designs, the "disc" and the "vertical" logo, shown at the top of the page. Starting from 1971/72, the serial number changed to the 83500 series, with reissue of previous records, eventually in different format and slight difference in the design. The most impressive (and sought-after) early minimalism records (LaMonte Young and Charlemagne Palestine above all) have been released with this second serial number only.
