So, I am most likely one of the few people (still alive) who not only owned one of these, but actually sold these when they were new back in 1976, and I can tell you first hand this was, and still is one of the most underrated pieces of audio gear ever made!
In 1976, I worked for Lafayette Radio as a side job mainly because of my interest in audio gear, and working there allowed me to play with it all for free, and buy at a discount if I wanted. That was the time of the Pioneer 1010 behemoth receiver, AND the Sansui 9090 that blew up more speakers than any other piece of equipment in history! And we carried Marantz equipment both stereo AND Quadraphonic - remember Quadraphonic? Back then Lafayette sold them all, including ESS & JBL speakers as well as their own brand, some of which were made by EPI and others. And of course they had their own line of electronics too.
And then, this tuner came out! The MAIN problem was, it matched nothing, and it was ungodly expensive! All electronics were silver, and nobody had ever heard of Dolby FM, so this was not a big seller at $269.95, especially in 1976 considering inflation, that would be approximately $1,346 in today's money!
BUT, for anyone looking for a superb tuner, with truly great bass out of a tuner, this was a no brainier! It sounded better than anything else we had in the store by a long-shot and was still cheaper... but even though Lafayette was not a big name on the west coast, they made their name making tuners for decades, SO it SHOULD come as no surprise that this was a sleeper.

Housed in a genuine walnut case with a black annodized from panel, it is NOT CHEAPLY BUILT weighing in at a whopping 17lbs! That's more than some amplifiers weigh! The unit is in near perfect condition, no scratches to the front panel, only a couple VERY minor scuffs on the tope, barely perceptible. I no longer have the original box or manual, but if you need a manual they can be found all over the web.
- A NOTE ABOUT ME: I ultimately went on to own and operate a high-end Audio Salon in the 80s/90s located in Pasadena, CA for over 12 years and never lost my appetite for High Fidelity audio. I DO KNOW HOW TO PACK so getting it there in one piece should not be a a problem, no matter where you live, but it will be shipped insured regardless against loss or damage in transit.

I really DO CARE about when and how your product gets to you. Because the post office is so incredibly inept, I ONLY SHIP domestic packages INSURED, which is AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDED in the shipping cost, and that is not free as the post office charges for it. If your parcel gets lost OR damaged in freight, your item will be replaced if one is available OR you will be completely refunded!
IMPORTANT MONEY SAVING TIP! If you are buying more than one of my items and would like to SAVE MONEY by COMBINING SHIPPING costs, I will be happy to do so, but eBay has now made it more difficult to get discounts by confusing people with "Buy it Now" and "Add to Cart" options on non-auction style pages. If you are buying one item from a seller use the Buy it Now. BUT IF YOU WANT COMBINED or FREE SHIPPING, DO NOT USE THE BUY IT NOW button! Instead, select ADD TO CART. Then use your BACK button on your browser and select the other items you want that qualify using ADD TO CART each time. When you are finished, look for the shopping cart icon at the top right corner of your eBay page and click on it. Find the blue button which reads COMMIT TO BUY & SEND REQUEST. SHIPPING ADDRESSES: IMPORTANT!! I can ONLY SHIP to the address as noted in PAYPAL'S "TRANSACTION DETAILS". If you want it shipped to an alternate location, you will need to register that address BEFORE paying or it will be shipped to the registered address.
SHIPPING COSTS: Shipping costs will be determined by weight & destination! You may click on the SHIPPING & PAYMENT tab found at the top of the page, just under the item's picture for all shipping options to all destinations both domestic and international. There you will find drop down boxes for your location and you can then use the shipping calculator to determine the correct cost for where you live.

I have no control over the US Post Office. I get the items packed and shipped within the prescribed time and all packages are picked up by my mail carrier. What happens after that is beyond my control...
