Description

"Night of the Phantom" is a 1965 garage rock single by Larry & The Blue Notes, a Fort Worth, Texas band. Originally written as "Night of the Sadist" by Larry Roquemore and Larry Slater, it was renamed due to concerns over the term "sadist" limiting airplay. Produced by Major Bill Smith, the song draws from urban legends like the hook-handed escaped patient and the Lake Worth Goat Man. Released on Tiris Records, it became a regional hit, later picked up by 20th Century Fox for national distribution. The track, known for its raw, proto-punk energy, appears on compilations like Back from the Grave, Volume 1 and Fort Worth Teen Scene, Volume 2.
