This is the audiophile acclaimed version, Mastered by George Piros at Atlntic, NYC and Pressed at Monarch Records Mfg. Corp., Los Angeles, CA!! Listen for silkier high end and fatter bottom end. Monarch pressings make it sound like you're in the room with the band! And wouldn't that be nice! This legendary recording probably needs no introduction, but...it's one of the three albums from this era that spawned the term "Heavy Metal". Here's the blueprint here: heavy sounds recorded meticulously by Jimmy Page while the band was on tour in the U.S., absorbing all of the legendary blues heroes and the psychedelic West Coast scene and somehow managing to throw in a theremin for good measure! One of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!!! allmusic gives it 5 stars!!!

Cover: VG/VG+ (see photos) Gatefold. Front, gatefold and back of cover artwork and text are rich, clear and bright, with some ring and shelf wear. Seams, corners and spine are solid and clean, with some wear. No splits. No writing. No stickers. Spine print is clear.

Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album?
First and early pressings are pressed from the first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues/re-issues (which, in recent times, are often pressed from whatever 'best' tapes or digital sources are currently available) - many so-called 'audiophile' new 180g pressings are cut from hi-res digital sources…essentially an expensive CD pressed on vinyl. Why experience the worse elements of both formats? These are just High Maintenance CDs, with mid-ranges so cloaked with a veil as to sound smeared. They are nearly always compressed with murky transients and a general lifelessness in the overall sound. There are exceptions where re-masters/re-presses outshine the original issues, but they are exceptions and not the norm.
First or early pressings nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider. Subtle instrument nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with a far-tighter bass. Upper-mid ranges shine without harshness, and the overall depth is more immersive. Inner details are clearer.
On first and early pressings, the music tends to sound more ‘alive’ and vibrant. The physics of sound energy is hard to clarify and write about from a listening perspective, but the best we can describe it is to say that you can 'hear' what the mixing and mastering engineers wanted you to hear when they first recorded the music.
Led Zeppelin II Review

[-]Recorded quickly during Led Zeppelin's first American tours, Led Zeppelin II provided the blueprint for all the heavy metal bands that followed it. Since the group could only enter the studio for brief amounts of time, most of the songs that compose II are reworked blues and rock & roll standards that the band was performing on-stage at the time. Not only did the short amount of time result in a lack of original material, it made the sound more direct. Jimmy Page still provided layers of guitar overdubs, but the overall sound of the album is heavy and hard, brutal and direct. "Whole Lotta Love," "The Lemon Song," and "Bring It on Home" are all based on classic blues songs -- only, the riffs are simpler and louder and each song has an extended section for instrumental solos. Of the remaining six songs, two sport light acoustic touches ("Thank You," "Ramble On"), but the other four are straight-ahead heavy rock that follows the formula of the revamped blues songs. While Led Zeppelin II doesn't have the eclecticism of the group's debut, it's arguably more influential. After all, nearly every one of the hundreds of Zeppelin imitators used this record, with its lack of dynamics and its pummeling riffs, as a blueprint.
