Led Zeppelin II Vinyl LP
Atlantic SD 8236 Vintage 1969 Jacket: NM- with shrink wrap (factory sticker with song titles on the back of the shrink wrap) Sleeve: NM- Record: VG+ (vinyl matrix number)

Since grading vinyl records can be somewhat subjective, I am using the following scale with all my LP listings

Near Mint - (minus)  (NM-)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust 
  • Should still be very shiny under a light
  • One or two small marks when tilted
  • Possible minor surface noise when played

Very Good + (plus) (VG+)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted
  • Signs of minor use
  • May have slight surface noise when played

Very Good (VG)

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major, may not shine under light
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song

Very Good - (minus) (VG-)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks
  • The record will play ok but probably with some surface noise in some spots

Good + (plus) (G+)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, or have one outstanding flaw, such as a light residue
  • May have marks on most parts, too many to qualify as (VG) or several deeper marks
  • Record will play ok without skips

Good (G)

  • A record that is playable, but will have many flaws
  • Will have marks across almost all parts of the playing surface, and will most likely play with surface noise throughout
  • May have skips
