BRISTOLS No.1 RARE RECORD SHOP *Item for sale* LED ZEPPELIN III ~ 1970 UK ATLANTIC 1st PRESS w/PETER GRANT CREDIT EX
This is a UK first pressing of Led Zeppelin's third album from 1970, in excellent condition.
To get the stats out the way, it's got the original Peter Green credit on both labels and
both labels read 2401002 as opposed to later 2401-002 on one or both labels, details
which only appeared on the first pressing. It also has the earliest A5/B5 matrix, the full
dead wax matrix and stampers being:
2401002 A-5 1 1 1 8 Do what thou wilt
2401002 B-5 1 2 1 2 So mote it be
The cover is dirt-free, the gimmick wheel front cover is in working order. There's some
creasing to the laminate on the open edge and some light waving of the front cover above
the wheel. The spines and edges are all pretty clean, the front cover bottom and top right
very extreme corners have a little wear. The gatefold is very clean, as is the back cover.
The labels show just a couple of light spindle marks, there may have been a small sticker
on the side two label, there's just a little wear just above the atlantic symbol on the right
just above the central white band.
The general impression of the vinyl is that it's only lightly played, no lessening of the
original gloss and very clean looking in natural light. Hold the record in bright light and
you do see quite a lot of fine hairlines. There's one slightly heavier small scratch midway
through "Celebration day", though no evidence of any ticks when play checked. I'm
listening to the album as I write this, and there's absolutely none of the consistent
background hiss you find on over-played records. It's generally quiet between tracks,
little if any pops, ticks or hiss, it sounds great.
So neither cover or vinyl are mint, but it's a generally clean copy with very little lessening
of play quality. If you've not heard a first pressing, it's a joy to listen to.
