LED ZEPPELIN - " III ", Atlantic Records Ltd. (2401002) Stereo, 1970
Very rare, 1970, English 1st pressing LP issue of the classic third album by Zeppelin.
Featuring the all-important gatefold sleeve with rotating front and the original Atlantic Plum and Orange labels. Plus, this LP has the labels with the dashless cat numbers "2401002", the Jimmy Page production credit and Peter Grant executive producer credit at the top of the the label... and mostly importantly of all "DO WHAT THOU WILT" and "SO MOTE IT BE" etched into the run-off grooves - these details mark it out as the very earliest pressing - see photos.
English issue and pressing.
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner sleeve has also been retained and included in the auction - see photo)
In the name of a good auction I'm starting this record at just 99p and i will let the bidders decide it's worth.
CONDITION:
VINYL = V.G.+ (No deep scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, light spindle trails, etc. Under a bright grading lamp I can make out a few very slight surface marks and a few other faint scuffs just visible on the vinyl's surface - although none of these correspond directly to any audible defects. Generally it plays pretty well, but there is some very faint occasional surface noise audible during the run-in, between tracks and duting the first few seconds of the quiet intro of a couple of tracks. As the record played, I did hear the odd faint click or crackle in the background from time to time, but generally once the music kicks in that's all you can hear.
Overall, although it is not quite perfect and I realise this will affect the value, it is by no means ruined by these minor imperfections and would still make a good honest copy for someone to play and enjoy - perfect copies of this LP exchange hands for a lot of money these days and although this is not quite one of those museum pieces, it is still a very serviceable copy that would be great for somebody out there to play and enjoy as it was originally intented.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = EX- (Generally pretty good. NO rips, tears, big creases or defacing. But did have to mark it down a bit for general wear, a couple of tiny creases just in the laminate and beinga bit grubby or discoloured in places - see photos for further clarification)
