Description
LED ZEPPELIN III A5 / B5 Atlantic 2401022 UK 1970 Red/Plum LABEL
This is the first pressing of their third LP on the famous red/plum label. It has Peter Grant credit as Executive producer both on the labels and the gatefold. The publishing credits are 'Warner Bros. Music Ltd'.
It also has the famous Aleister Crowley quotes 'Do what thou wilt' and 'So mote it be' etched on the run out grooves. The rotating wheel still works perfectly on the gatefold.

Visual grading
Under a bright light I can detect some faint hairlines on both sides and a couple of longer 'swish' type ones on Side One. However, there are no deep feelable scratches and overall it is a clean looking vinyl for its age. There is spindle wear so the record has obviously been played a number of times and as described below there is crackle throughout but a professional clean may improve the audio.
Play grading
Side One does play with some crackle but is less obvious on the louder tracks. The classic 'Immigrant Song' plays very well with no pops or jumps, just some underlying crackle that is difficult to hear due to the volume! The crackle during 'Friends' is more evident due to being a quieter song but still plays with perfectly acceptable audio with no other background noise. 'Celebration Day' plays well with a touch of distortion. 'Since I've Been Loving You' plays with excellent clarity despite the crackle still being prevalent and only a handful of light clicks. 'Out On The Tiles' ends the side with less crackle although there is definitely some distortion.
'Gallows Pole' does have some obvious crackle and a couple of clicks at the beginning. The audio improves somewhat as the track progresses and there are no jumps. The remaining tracks play with less evident crackle although there are a handful of light clicks on 'Bron-y-aur Stomp' and 'Hats off to Roy Harper'.
It is a shame this first pressing plays with as much crackle as it does because it is actually a very clean looking vinyl. Perhaps with a professional clean the quality of the audio could be improved.
Gatefold cover
The laminated E.J. Day gatefold is in overall excellent condition and the rotating wheel still works perfectly well. The edges and spine are very clean and the inside only has a few small marks but there is no writing anywhere. There is a little rubbing on the two right hand edges but is minimal. The back cover is also in excellent order with only one small 'nick' on the top edge. For 46 years old this gatefold has been well maintained.
Poly-lined inner sleeve
The original 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' inner is in excellent condition with no wear at all.
The labels
The labels have some spindle wear and some 'spotting' also but no writing.
