ORIGINAL RED/PLUM pressing of this incredible rock masterpiece. Originally lambasted on release for being far too acoustic and not 'heavy' enough the album, like fine wine, grew in stature and has settled to become respected as one of Zeppelin's finest releases in their cannon. Sonically superior to the later green and red label pressings - these copies are brilliantly mastered with full range sonics (especially the bottom end) allowing Page's acoustic guitar to ring out like a bell across a fog filled lake.
Kicking off with 'Immigrant Song', the album sounds like a natural extension of Led Zep 'II' . There is no indication that the mood is mellower as this track kicks and claws its way out of the speakers like an out of control steam train. Ditto 'Celebration Day' and 'Since I've Been Loving You' has gone down in history as arguably Zeps greatest blues track - Page's guitar work is literally stunning. 'Gallows Pole' brings back the birch whilst 'Out On The Tiles' mashes hard rock with the largesse of a jolly swagman.
The acoustic stuff is Steller - 'Friends', 'That's The Way' and 'Bron Y Aur Stomp' stand proud but its 'Tangerine' that takes top honours. If this had been released as a single at the time there is no doubt that it could have been a number one hit single.
This is the first version with 'Celebration' on label and not the later correction to 'Celebration Day'.
This is an interesting example as the vinyl is a red/plum UK pressing but the cover is of US construct - still in shrink wrap with a DISC-O-MAT price sticker on the shrink.

Vinyl: Nice clean condition. Displays a few spindle marks on the label and ultra light scuffs from sliding in and out of the inner sleeve. Spot playback reveals a tiny smattering of noise and a few obligatory static clicks and pops. Nothing horrendous. 'So mote it be' etched on side two run out groove. Grades as Ex
Cover: Again, no signs of use to this well known fully laminated gatefold cover with fully working spinning wheel and die cut windows. Sharp corners - no dings, no bends, no spit seams, no ring wear, no damage to die cut holes and no creases. Spine is straight and completely uncrushed. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 54 years after release. Wheel and spindle are both in perfect working order. Grades as Ex+
