LED ZEPPELIN III RED/PLUM 1st PRESS A-5/B-5 MATRIX Year: 1970 Cat: 2401002
- On offer here is a superb copy of one of Led Zeppelin's most sought after records (after the turquoise cover debut album).
- This is the original first press which has the impressive audio depth not found on later pressings. The main distinguishing features are:
- Thickest cardboard rotating wheel gatefold sleeve with the front wheel sleeve having open top and bottom. E.J Day Group printer.
- Front has Atlantic Deluxe printed in light blue box. Spine and inside gatefold have original 2401002 catalogue no.
- Red/Plum labels have "Executive Producer:Peter Grant" credit.
- A-5/B-5 matrix. Run offs in Dead Wax have, Side 1 "Do what thou wilt" and Side 2 "So mote it be".
- This copy has been well looked after with a good shine and a perfect rotating wheel. The only signs of wear are a couple light thumb creases when angled to the light. The spine is rigid with no cracks. Sleeve Graded EX.
- The non-original Decca polylined paper inner is graded EX.
- Under strong light the thick vinyl has superb gloss with a small light mark which does not affect play on Side 1 and a few very light hairlines on Side 2. Visually Graded EX. The red/plum labels are in pristine condition with only a couple spindle trails!. When listened to critically, there are a few pops on the leadins on both sides. On Side 1 any noise stops as the Immigrant Song begins and the tracks play great, even in the quiet passages. Side 1 Playgraded EX. On Side 2 there is slight noise at the delicate beginning of Gallows Pole and Tangerine but overall it is still breathtaking at times! a great listen - Side 2 is graded EX-

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc
