Description

BEFORE BIDDING PLEASE NOTE THIS REVISED SHIPPING INFORMATION ON ALL MY LISTINGS. DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND THE TERMS UPON WHICH I WILL SHIP ITEMS. I AM SORRY FOR IMPOSING THESE TERMS BUT IT IS ALL DOWN TO PAYPAL.

I had a buyer who recently purchased 3 LPs from me at a cost of £72.00, with shipping to Europe. He chose proof of posting with insurance cover of £36.00 and with shipping costs not covered in the event of damage or loss; he even acknowledged this via eBay message system. He did not want to pay for International signed for shipping with insurance over £36.00.

The LPs were said to be lost in transit and he claimed on Paypal, despite his acceptance of his choice of shipping method and my proof of posting with weight confirmation for 3 LPs; apparently Paypal rules dictate that I am responsible for ensuring safe delivery to the buyer's address and therefore I had to fully reimburse the buyer.

In view of this appalling stance by Paypal all invoices over a total of £36.00 value for non UK delivery items will be sent International signed for with FULL insurance cover, if the invoice is for items over £36.00 then the cost is £2.20 (up to £500.00 value) in addition to the International signed for cost of £3.50. I am sorry for having to insist upon this but I am not prepared to ship LPs and then be subject to a claim for non arrival. If you wish to bid on other sellers' listings that do not stipulate this then I will understand and indeed you may be able to save shipping costs and still be fully covered !!!!! The same applies to UK shipping when the item is over £36.00, Special Delivery must be taken as a shipping method; Recorded Delivery is standard on all my listings and is acceptable for all invoices up to £36.00.

I do not blame the buyer for claiming on the Paypal system as he says his LPs did not arrive, I will be taking this matter up with eBay and Paypal as the system needs to be clarified; as why should the seller be held responsible if the buyer chooses an under insured shipping method without signed for delivery.

I have decided to sell all my vinyl as my separates system ceased to work some time ago now and I find MP3 more convenient for the car and whilst on the move; having transferred over the majority of my vinyl collection to MP3 via a friend’s quality system.

I have had a break of 2 months from listing vinyl having sold so much of my collection in the last 12 months; I had intended to keep 75 LPs but have now increased this to 100 and have spent the break time copying the remainder of the vinyl to MP3 before selling the final 60/70 LPs from my now considerably smaller collection.

I will retain a core of 100 of the most highly collectable and valuable vinyl which I will never sell just in case I return to vinyl one day in the future.

I have already sold Led Zeppelin I for £162, Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy with OBI strip for £139  together with Led Zeppelin II copies at £135 and £128, Led Zeppelin IV at £132 and Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland at £138 with Band of Gypsys at £133. Black Sabbath Paranoid for £74, Deep Purple Fireball at £91, Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers for £57 and John Mayall Bluesbreakers for £85.  A number of these buyers have returned and purchased further LPs.

I am a massive fan of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and the Rolling Stones amongst others and had in excess of 150 Led Zeppelin LPs at the peak of my collecting with over 50 red/plum copies which were acquired when most of my friends moved over to CD.

See my feedback for buyers’ opinions of my LPs.

I have carefully looked after my collection over the years since I started to collect them in the early 1970s. Most have not been played for 20+ years.

I will endeavour to list as accurately as possible using my own grading system supplemented by The Record Collector grading.

I cannot and will not describe any of my LPs or singles as mint condition however, as this to me would imply that they are in an unused condition and none of them are, they have all been played to some degree and at best are near mint and at worst excellent. I am listing all LPs etc using the standard template below.

I will sell the more valuable and rare LPs and EPs from my vinyl collection over the next 6 months with a percentage going to Cancer Research UK together with an additional donation via a tax credit under the Gift Aid scheme.

I have managed to reach my first target by raising over £1000 and so far have raised £1300 from my sales, thank you to all buyers who have helped support Cancer Research UK.

In order to minimise my listing costs, as I am donating to charity, I will only normally provide 2 photos per listing, however any interested buyer can e- mail me and I will gladly provide a photo of any relevant part of the cover, label etc. I have included additional photos for this particular listing, buyers can email me to request any addtional information and/or photos.

This listing is:

Led Zeppelin: In through the out door. An ultra rare superb condition FULL set of 6 UK 1st press LPs, all in different covers with thick card uncoloured inner sleeves and brown bags. All 6 vinyls have the rarest amended/corrected matrices only found on a UK 1st press which include the A5/B5 matrix (corrected from B4) and “Strawberry” stamper. There are a number of features which collectors should be aware of when looking for a UK 1st press, as I will detail in this listing.

A full set of these is ultra rare and very rarely comes up for sale. I was an avid collector and had 150 Led Zeppelin LPs (including over 50 red/plum very first pressings), I was fortunate enough to have collected 2 full sets and this is the first to go on sale.

The LP was issued with 6 different picture covers (A-F) and was housed in a brown paper outer bag cover which meant that you did not know which picture outer cover you would find inside. It is said that some covers are rarer than others (D-F) although it is a set in superb condition that is even harder to find as so often the brown paper bags were torn and discarded and the inner sleeve “magic paint” was activated (see below).

Collectors can purchase sets issued in USA or Europe; there are a number of differences between these different issues, in Europe the bottom inch of the spine says “stereo” and not the label number also the bags have the later pressing plain brown paper  whereas the UK 1st pressings have lines running thought the paper. In addition the Swan Song logo and credit on the brown paper bag was different as was the credit on the inner sleeve, labels were of course also different and did not have SSK 59410 on them.

Features of a genuine UK 1st press are:

1.    All the vinyls should have “Manufactured in the UK” on the labels. In the run off should be a “Strawberry” stamper etching and the matrices A5/B5 with the B4 original matrix crossed out and replaced with the B5. This matrix is the VERY FIRST UK matrix, there were no earlier ones (this was common in the late 70s and A1/B1 was not used).

2.       The inner sleeve was originally creamy/white in colour and had a centre picture panel on each side which when moistened with a damp finger would colour up various pastel colours. When word spread about this “magic paint” so many people tried it and so the original non-coloured inner was no longer original and whilst the colours are quite attractive, the originality is lost. The inner sleeve should detail “printed and made in England” later foreign copies did not have this.

3.       The outer brown paper bags have the correct UK catalogue number of SSK 59410 AND “© 1979 a Swan Song recording distributed by WEA Records Limited, foreign copies did not have this. In addition UK 1st pressing brown paper bags have distinctive lines in the paper whereas foreign ones and later UK pressings do not

4.       The picture covers (A-F) have the © 1979 a Swan Song recording on centre of the spine and the letter (A-F) on the top inch, with SSK 59410 on the bottom inch (European copies have “stereo” instead and have SS59410 not SSK 59410, USA copies have SS16002).

ALL 6 vinyls are in superb condition with a deep glossy shine and are totally unmarked. I have stored the vinyls in polylined sleeves to protect both the vinyl and the card type inner sleeves. I am going to grade all NM; with this particular LP many copies were unplayed as another identical copy was available.

All 12 labels are totally unmarked and show little or no evidence of spindle marks, in fact I have really struggled to find more than 2 light spindle traces on all 12 labels. I am going to grade all NM

All 6 inner sleeves are unactivated and free from any colour from the “magic paint”. There are no silts or rips and no writing on them. I have stored the vinyls in polylined sleeves to protect both the vinyl and these card type inner sleeves. I am going to grade all EX++ only because you will always have some handling discolouration even if it is minimal,

All 6 brown paper bags are in superb condition with no writing, rips or sticker residue. It should be borne in mind that these are flimsy paper bags which would have been stacked in record shops prior to initial sale and whilst they are in superb condition the opening edges may show absolute minimal fraying from when they were originally opened. The grading of these bags is always going to be difficult and should be graded based upon condition and the original material used. I am going to grade all as EX++ as a minimum and based upon my extensive knowledge of the LP and others I own and have seen elsewhere. Please note because of the construction and size of the brown paper bag (it overlaps the outer cover) it is therefore prone to fraying. I will pack thoroughly during transit.

All 6 picture covers (A-F) are in superb condition, there are no slits, sticker residue or writing on any of them. The matt covers are superb, the spines fully readable and there is the absolute minimal of wear anywhere on the covers apart from a small corner bump on the F sleeve. This LP was of course wrapped in cellophane when new and slight minimal ultra fine surface creases are to be expected as the cellophane shrinks. I would grade all 6 as EX++ as a minimum.

Shipping

Shipping for this full set of 6 LPs with cruciform packaging and associated cardboard stiffeners together with bubblewrap will make overseas shipping costly as the set may have to be sent in 2 packages, I will do my best to keep costs as low as possible. Overseas buyers contact me for an exact quote before bidding. All I charge is for the cost of the shipping and associated packaging and do not charge anymore than the costs I incur. As the package is over 2 Kg in weight then the domestic shipping rate quoted of £9.00 is a maximum price I will charge.

The LP or single will be despatched within the UK by first class recorded (signed for) post in LP/single mailers with a minimum of 2 cardboard stiffeners supplied by Soundswholesale (eBay seller) and held in a poly sleeve. LP/single to be posted within 3 days of receipt of cleared payment to PayPal account. Special Delivery is mandatory at an additional postage cost for high value items as recorded delivery cover is currently limited to £36.00.

I am happy to ship overseas,

I am not liable personally for compensation once the item is passed over to Royal Mail, however unlike a number of other sellers I will complete all documentation needed here in the UK to enable compensation due from Royal Mail to be claimed and then paid over to the buyer.

I only charge a nominal amount for packaging and do not look to make a profit on the shipping part of the sale.

Overseas buyers can email me for a quote based upon this LP and/or multiple purchases.

I am happy to combine postage on multiple purchases within a 7 day period. Please tell me if you intend to bid on multiple listings.

I look to cover my costs on shipping and NOT profit from this element of the sale. I cannot control postage prices levied by Royal Mail.
