Description
Led Zeppelin’s fourth (and some would say best) album, catalogue No. 2401012 on the Atlantic Red/Plum label. A very good example of this ORIGINAL 1971 UK FIRST PRESSING. Matrix numbers are the EARLIER A3 and B3 respectively. This copy also has the famous ‘Pecko Duck’ and ‘Porky’ etchings in the run off grooves on each side and THE CORRECT 'Misty Mountain HOP' spelling. This is actually FAR RARER the the incorrect spelling of 'TOP' on the majority of copies with the later A3/B4 matrices. As with all these early Zeppelin pressings the power they got into those grooves is astonishing ! So much better than the later green/orange label issues. This recording has tremendous power and surges out of the speakers and (very pleasantly) kicks you in the aural senses !! Bonzo’s drums are always a revelation and here it feels like you’re right there with him when He’s pounding out ‘Four Sticks’ and ‘When The Levee Breaks’. The detail and clarity of the quieter passages in ‘Stairway’ and ‘The Battle Of Evermore’ are wonderful. The vinyl has a glossy sheen and no marks or scuffs. There are a few clicks here and there but nothing too serious. I would grade the vinyl as VG+. The sleeve is in good condition. There is only a little wear apparent on the edges and spine and grades as EXCELLENT. The soft card inner sleeve is in VG condition and has a couple of small tears but has not split on any of the sides, as is usual for this inner. Lastly, the labels. Again the colours are as vibrant as they were in 71’ but there is an ink scribble on both sides. A good example of an awesome record by an awesome band captured at the height of their powers !!
