The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. Any significant playing defects will be detailed in the description below. I know how disappointing it is to receive a record graded as excellent, only to find that listening pleasure is spoiled by endless pops, loud clicks and intrusive background crackle. I guarantee that you will not buy such a record from me!!

The winning bidder can expect to receive a clean record, carefully packaged, with the vinyl removed from the inner and outer sleeves to prevent splits in transit.

Here for auction is an exceptional example of the double album by LED ZEPPELIN titled “PHYSICAL GRAFFITI”, Catalogue Number SSK 89400. This is an ORIGINAL 1975 UK *1st PRESSING* on the SWAN SONG RECORD LABEL, with THE EARLIEST A1, B5, C1, D1 MATRIX NUMBERS.

It is important to explain the differences between this genuine * UK 1st pressing* and more common later pressings.

FIRSTLY the ‘BOX SHAPED’ sleeve, printed and made in England by GOTHIC PRINT FINISHERS LTD. is made from very thick quality card (later pressings are much thinner). The Swan Song Kings Road address is printed on the back of the sleeve (later pressings do not have this). SECONDLY, the wrap-around lettered insert and picture inner sleeves are made from much thicker quality card than all later pressings. The inner sleeves are also a slightly different colour. THIRDLY, there are no Warner logos on the Swan Song labels as there are on all later pressings.

It is important to stress that ALL PARTS OF THIS LP ARE UK FIRST PRESSED!!!!  Often on later pressings sleeves and inners of German origin were used - BUT THIS LP IS A 100% GENIUNE 'EARLIEST' UK FIRST PRESSING WITH A UK MADE SLEEVE, UK MADE INNERS AND UK FIRST PRESSED SET OF RECORDS!!!

The single card sleeve, with window cut-outs, printed and made in England by Gothic Print Finishers Ltd., is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. The front and back covers are unmarked, with just a few light creases. The window cut-outs are completely intact with no rips or damage at all. The original shop price sticker is present on the back cover. The edges and corners show light rubbing in places. The opening edges are in excellent shape. The spine is square and solid with just light storage wear towards the bottom corner. There are no rips, splits or writing. Overall a lovely example of this fragile *1st Press” sleeve!!

The “1st Press” records retain their original deep mirror-like shine and sit flat and true on the turntable. Visually all 4 sides are in EXCELLENT(+) CONDITION with just very light surface marks evident (mostly from taking the records in and out of the card inner sleeves). These are of course purely superficial, and of no audio significance. The records are now stored in much kinder anti-static inner sleeves, which are included. The BEAUTIFUL SWAN SONG LABELS, without Warner logos, are unmarked, with barely any spindle traces evident. There is no wear around the spindle holes. I am confident that the records have not been played many times.

PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:

All 4 sides play SUPERBLY with ALL FREQUENCIES CRYSTAL CLEAR. The first press mix is quite different to that of later issues. This is a particularly loud and vibrant recording which SOUNDS SENSATIONAL PLAYED AT LOUD VOLUME. There are no pops or loud clicks, and a minimum of unwanted noise to spoil the listening experience. A significantly better playing 1st press copy may be very difficult to find!!

The thick card picture inner sleeves are in excellent condition, with just one short (2cm) split to one edge.

The shaped card insert, with the letters and credits, is also in excellent condition with just minor age discoloration near the edges.

OVERALL A SUPERB COMPLETE *1st PRESS* EXAMPLE OF THIS CLASSIC ALBUM - DON’T MISS THIS ONE!!!

The international postage costs listed above do not include insurance. Your invoice will include an insured option. I strongly recommend that you take up this option, but it is entirely up to you. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost or damaged, you will not get a refund. I can’t make it any clearer than that!

The UK postage cost includes insurance up to a value of £32. If the final sale price is more than this, your invoice will include an insurance option. The same applies as specified in the above paragraph.
