From my extensive Led Zeppelin collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional example of the brilliant studio double album by LED ZEPPELIN titled “PHYSICAL GRAFFITI”, Catalogue Number SSK 89400. This is an ORIGINAL 1975 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the SWAN SONG RECORD LABEL, with a stunning 1st ISSUE GOTHIC PRINT FINISHERS LTD DIE-CUT WINDOW SLEEVE. Complete with the correct 1st issue thick card gatefold insert and picture inner sleeves. [The sleeve is the earliest possible design with the Swan Song Kings Road address printed on the back cover. The double-ridged Swan Song record labels do not have Warner “W” logos at the 2 o’ clock position. The matrix numbers are the A1, B5, C1 and D1 (B4 and B5 stamped pressings were both available upon release and are the 1st press matrix numbers for Side B). The thick card gatefold window insert has a proper spine (not just a fold) which enables it to wrap around the inner sleeves correctly. The picture inner sleeves are made from very thick card].
The box-style die-cut sleeve is in EX+ condition with only the lightest signs of wear and virtually no creasing. It retains its box shape perfectly and has not been flattened. The front and back covers are unmarked and the window cut-outs are pristine. The three square edges are all uncrushed and solid and the red spine text is perfect. Overall this is an exceptional sleeve which will be very difficult to improve upon.
The top quality Swan Song records have clearly not been played many times. They are nice mid-weight pressings which retain their original deep shine. Both are in EX condition with just a few very light sleeve-removal type surface marks evident under bright light. These are of course only superficial and do not have any audio significance whatsoever (no clicks). The Swan Song picture labels are like new with only a few faint spindle traces near the centres. There is virtually no wear to either spindle hole. The sound quality of these original Atlantic pressings is truly outstanding - very powerful and vibrant with wonderful driving bass. Both sides play EX+ throughout. There is no discernable deterioration in sound quality and virtually no unwanted noise at all (just occasional very light surface sound which is never intrusive and only mentioned for complete accuracy). I think that it will be very difficult to find another 1st press copy which plays to such a high standard.
The gatefold window/credits insert is in unmarked EX+ condition. As you can see from the photo below – this is the correct 1st issue with a proper shaped spine.
The picture inner sleeves are both in unmarked EX+ condition. There is just a short bruise (not a split) to each left side edge where the print has cracked.
Overall this is a beautiful 1st press copy of Zeppelin's iconic tour de force which will grace any record collection.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
PACKAGING
LPs are packaged with care and well protected to ensure that they arrive safely in the same condition as they leave me. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
