From my own personal collection it is my pleasure to offer a superb copy of the iconic double album by LED ZEPPELIN titled “PHYSICAL GRAFFITI”, Catalogue Number SSK 89400. This is an ORIGINAL 1975 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the SWAN SONG RECORD LABEL, with a 1st ISSUE GOTHIC PRINT FINISHERS LTD. DIE-CUT WINDOW SLEEVE. Complete with the correct 1st issue gatefold window/credits insert and picture inner sleeves. [The sleeve is the earliest possible design with the Swan Song 484 Kings Road, London address printed on the back cover. The gatefold insert and picture inner sleeves are made out of thick card. The Swan Song labels do not have Warner “W” logos at the 2 o’ clock position. The vinyl matrix numbers are the earliest A1, B4, C1 and D1].
The sleeve is in EX condition. The front and back covers are in fine shape with the window cut-outs completely undamaged. There is just light storage wear to the edges and a few minor creases. The spine is square and solid with perfect red text. Overall it’s a very well preserved example indeed.
The records are visually in EX+/MINT- condition. The Swan Song picture labels are like new with only a few faint spindle traces each side. I can confirm that the records have only received a few careful plays on a high end turntable. The sound mix of the 1st pressings of Physical Graffiti is superior to that of later pressings which lack the audio impact. Both sides play excellently throughout with no deterioration in sound quality and minimal unwanted noise. The audio is powerful and vibrant with excellent bass. The small amount of surface sound present is both random and transient, and is not intrusive in any way. In my opinion it was inherent in the pressing when new. I have never found an A1/B4/C1/D1 pressing of this album that plays totally silently, and I doubt very much that any exist. This copy plays as cleanly as any that I have listened to in years.
The gatefold insert is in unmarked EX condition with just a touch of minor age discoloration.
The picture inner sleeves are both in unmarked EX condition.
Overall this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a superb day of release copy of Zeppelin’s tour de force which will make a fine addition to any record collection.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Sony PS-X600 turntable fitted with an AT-30E MC cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My grading is strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
All records can be expected to rotate sufficiently evenly on the turntable for there to be no effect whatsoever on the audio playback. Minor warps or dishing will not be mentioned as virtually all records display these features to some degree and no record is perfectly flat.
