Led Zeppelin’s ‘Tour De Force’ sixth album from 1975 on the Swan Song label, catalogue number SSK 89400. Matrices are A1 B5 C1 D1. A great example of this FIRST UK FIRST PRESSING !! So much more powerful than the later pressings and reissues from different parts of the globe. The audio reproduction of this first UK pressing really is FANTASTIC !! From the opening track, the Bo Diddleyesque ‘Custard Pie’, to the sledgehammer blues of ‘In My Time Of Dying’, this is Zeppelin’s heaviest album and this first pressing really packs a PUNCH !! It plays with staggering power and clarity ! The exquisite Eastern mysticism of ‘Kashmir’, the stomping Disco Funk of ‘Trampled Under Foot’, it all just comes shuddering out of the speakers at you !! But its not all hard and heavy. ‘Bron-Yr-Aur’, which was originally recorded in 1970 and intended for Zep III, is a beautifully reflective acoustic piece that perfectly showcases the bands multifaceted talents. The same could be said for gorgeously melodic ‘Down By The Seaside’. The outside recording of ‘Black Country Woman’ (in Mick Jagger’s back garden at Stargroves) is sensational – close your eyes and you’re right there with them !! But what this album really does is ROCK ! ‘The Wanton Song’, ‘Ten Years Gone’, ‘The Rover’, are all classic Zeppelin at their absolute best. It would be true to say I think, that this was the last ‘GREAT’ Zeppelin album and contains such wonderful music as only they could make. The beautiful Swan Song labels have NO WARNER LOGO’s and are COMPLETELY UNMARKED. The discs have the ‘dipped’ centers unlike later pressings and fit snugly over the spindle confirming little use. As I said, the audio reproduction is fabulous. There are NO REPEATING CLICKS OR POPS, just some very light surface crackle, barely audible on run ins and in the very quietest moments. Now, if you are one of those people who prefers looking at the vinyl rather than playing it, then this is probably not for you. As I said, the audio reproduction is first class with NO DISTORTION from groove wear whatsoever. The vinyl does have a very few light marks but absolutely NOTHING that affects play. So if you want to hear this fabulous album as it should be heard then this is definitely for you ! So audibly, this record grades easily as EXCELLENT+ but seeing as visually it is not mint, I grade it conservatively as vg++. The box type Kings Road, Culderstead sleeve is still a box. It has some light wear to the top opening edge, the top left corner has a small tear and there is a tear to the front (see photo). Apart from that it is fine with no tesrs to the windows or other defacement. I would grade this VG. The card track info insert grades as VG with some tears to the top on one side. The inner sleeves are in EXCELLENT condition with no tears, splits or marks. All in all, a FANTASTIC SOUNDING example of this wonderful album !
