I contacted Mike Caldwell at the following web address, as he is an expert on Led Zeppelin at:
I asked him the question regarding the missing numbers and his reply was:
Hi Lis
Yes, the missing numbers in the matrix is very rare - I had never seen one like it. Even test pressings were known to have numbers in the matrices. Supposedly, the earliest matrix IDs were stamped, then later ones etched. I'm wondering if your copy was one of the first etched pressings, right as they were beginning to use the updated plates. In any case, it's a great rarity with that matrix configuration, and quite possibly a pressing error that temporarily went unnoticed. If I am able to find out anything further about this, I will send a follow-up.
Best wishes,
Mike
The album is in excellent condition throughout and plays
loud and clear.
