Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti 

(Swan Song Records SSK 89400 UK Double LP 1975)

 

This is a UK 1st pressing LP in very nice overall condition! It has a heavyweight matte sleeve which has die-cut window areas on the front & rear sleeve. The sleeve is top opening. The spine text is printed in red. The rear of the sleeve has the "484 Kings Road, London" address on the rear. The sleeve and inserts are printed by "Gothic Print Finishers Ltd., London".

It comes with its original wrap-around, or gatefold, Track Titles & Information Insert. This is printed on thick "satin" card & has only one fold line along the bottom. This is, I believe, the rarest 1st press Information Insert variation. It was only used on the very earliest UK pressings. Essentially, it didn't quite fit around the two LP's & inners within the LP. Therefore, two fold lines, instead of one fold line, were introduced along the bottom to rectify this.

Both LP;s have a custom Picture Inner Sleeve. This is printed on thick matte card. These are side opening. They have the catalogue number printed on them with "A" or "B" to indicate the correct inner sleeve for LP 1 or LP 2. Both LP's also come with a period generic polythene-lined plain paper "inner" inner sleeve.

The records are pressed on thick vinyl & have 1st press "Swan Song" labels. These have no "Warner" logo on them. Only the very earliest UK pressings did not have the "Warner" logo. The Swan Song label design changed to include this logo quite soon after this LP's release in the mid 1970's. All four labels have the "Produced by Jimmy Page" and "Executive Producer - Peter Grant" credit. The 1st press matrix numbers are as follows. These are machine stamped in the dead wax.

Side 1: SSK 89400 A1
Side 2: SSK 89400 B4
Side 3: SSK 89400 C1
Side 4: SSK 89400 D1

This is a genuine UK 1st pressing of this iconic mid 1970's UK Rock LP. It comes with a single fold satin style wrap-around information insert. As stated, only the very 1st UK copies came with this insert variation. Consequently, they seldom turn up nowadays. The labels do not have the "Warner" logo on them. They also have the "Executive Producer - Peter Grant" credit on them. The records also have the earliest UK matrix numbers. The rear sleeve also have the correct "Kings Road" address on it. A complete & genuine UK 1st pressing. These are not that common.

For example, I have the very rare UK 1st Pressing of "Led Zeppelin I" with turquoise blue lettering on the front. This is in very nice condition overall. Sleeve: There is some light, mild or very mild rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is some light, very mild or very minor rubbing wear on the top sleeve opening edges on a few areas. This is not too noticeable. There is light, very mild or very minor rubbing wear on the bottom edge on a very few areas. There is very mild fading to the spine. There is light or very minor hairline rubbing wear on the front & rear spine edges on a very few areas only. This hardly really notices. There is only minimal rubbing wear on the spine face, The spine text, although faded, is completely legible. There is next to no wear to the opposite spine edge. There is no fading on this edge either. All the die-cut windows are in fantastic condition & show next to no wear. There are no rips or tears. Overall, Very NEAR EXCELLENT condition. This sleeve is extremely prone to wear and is quite hard to find in this very nice & clean condition.

The "One Fold" Wrap-around Track Information Insert is in Near Excellent condition. There is some light, very mild or very minor fading, to a varying degree, to the white of the front & back of the insert


Vinyl 1: There is a very mild 9 cm surface rub mark on Side 2. This is a bit thicker than a hairline mark. Otherwise, the vinyl looks extremely nice and clean. There are a very few light, very mild or very minor sleeve rubs which can barely be seen under a strong light. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, very mild or very minor dull surface marks which can hardly be seen on a few areas. One of these is a very feint 8 cm horizontal surface streak mark near the start of one side. This is not that noticeable under a strong light. Side 1 is in Near Excellent condition. Side 2 is in Excellent+ condition. Overall, Very NEAR EXCELLENT condition. The labels are in Excellent+ condition and show minimal mild spindle wear only.

The original Picture Inner Sleeve is in Excellent+ condition. There is some light, very mild or very minor hairline rubbing wear on the bottom edge, & spine edge, on a very few areas. It hardly really notices. There are no seam splits. The generic polythene-lined plain paper "Inner" inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. It shows light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & rippling. It has no seam splits.

I have play tested this LP in its entirety & it plays Excellent to Excellent+ overall, & Near Perfect to Perfect in some places. There is some light, very mild or very minor crackle in a very few quieter places. Overall, a great audio copy!


Vinyl 2: There is a mild 7 cm surface rub mark on Side 4. This is thicker than a hairline mark. There is an extremely feint 6 cm hairline surface sleeve rub mark on side 3. This is barely visible under a strong light. There is a very small 1 cm hairline surface mark on Side 3 too. Otherwise, there are some light, mild, very mild or very minor sleeve rubs which can hardly be seen under a strong light. These are nearly all on Side 4. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on a few areas. These, again, can hardly be seen under a strong light. Side 3 is in Very Near Excellent condition. Side 4 is in Very Good+ condition. Overall, Very Good++ condition. The labels are in Excellent+ condition and show minimal mild spindle wear only.

The original Picture Inner Sleeve is in Excellent+ condition. There is some light, very mild or very minor hairline rubbing wear on the bottom edge, & spine edge, on a very few areas. It hardly really notices. There are no seam splits. The generic polythene-lined plain paper "Inner" inner sleeve is in Very Good++ condition. It shows light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. It has no seam splits.

I have play tested this LP in its entirety.& it plays Near Excellent to Excellent overall, & Excellent+ in many paces. There is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in a few quieter places. There is some intermittent mild crackle at the end of the track "In The Light" on Side 3. There are a couple of mild clicks on one track on Side 3 too. Overall, a very decent audio copy.

    >>  Grading Information All grading is very strict & adheres to 'Record Collector' specifications. However, I have fine tuned them & they are explained below. All vinyl is examined closely under a strong light & play tested on excellent quality audio equipment.

MINT Condition = This is as perfect a copy as you are likely to find. The cover will show no, or next to no, wear. The vinyl will be unplayed or very, very near unplayed.

NEAR MINT Condition = Nearly mint, just slightly under. There maybe some minor paper/ inner sleeve rubs that can barely be seen under strong light. This disc has been played only a few times & has been extremely well  cared for. The cover is nearly perfect - Very minimal wear only.

EXCELLENT Condition = An excellent copy will show only mild, or minor, signs of use. There will be light, or very mild, sleeve rubs that can hardly be seen under strong light. There may be a very small & minor hairline mark in some instances. Play, in most cases, will be excellent or better. There may be some light, or very light, crackle in a few quieter places. The sleeve will show mild, or minor, rubbing wear & ringwear only.

NEAR EXCELLENT Condition = This has been played a few more times but it has been well cared for. There will be mild sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. There may be a couple of minor, or light, hairline marks. Playback will be generally excellent or better. There may be some light, mild or very mild crackle in some quieter places. The cover will show mild rubbing wear, ringwear or creasing

Very Good Condition = Most records that have been quite well played, but reasonably well cared for, tend to fit into this category. This is probably the most varied of the gradings so I have elaborated below.

There may be mild to more moderate sleeve rubs which can only be seen under a strong light. There may be a few light hairline marks but nothing too bad. A quite well played but serviceable copy. Playback will be very agreeable overall. There will be light, mild or very mild crackle in some places. There may also be a few light clicks. A more thorough description will always be on the listing. The record will certainly not be trashed!

The cover will show more noticeable signs of storage or use. There will be mild to more moderate rubbing wear on some edges There could be fading, ringwear or a minor seam split. There could be some mild creasing or mild sticker tears.

Please note that I also use "+" or "-" symbols for this grading. A plus symbol is obviously at the top end of "Very Good" & is really not too far from being in "Near Excellent" condition. The minus symbol obviously means it is at the lower end. This will mean that it is near to being in "Good+" condition.

Double LPs are classed as two LPs. Also gatefold sleeves, posters, inserts, etc.. can increase postage costs.

Please note that there are now VAT import charges from the UK into all EU countries. Anything under 150 Euros will need an IOSS number. VAT is paid at point of sale. For any items over 150 Euros in value. There will be a customs charge too. These vary, I believe, from country to country. Please check your relevant postal service online for details. Please note that these charges are beyond my control and are the law for outside parcels going into the EU.

All records will be sent in high quality vinyl box/ mailers with at least two card stiffeners either side of the LP or 7" Single. I use a cruciform box for larger orders (3-6 LPs). All parcels will be marked "Fragile" and dispatch time will generally be between 1-3 days after payment.

I will also remove the vinyl from the sleeve & place them in a re-sealable polythene sleeve. In order to prevent seam splits. Depending on the inner sleeve; I often remove the vinyl from the inner sleeve & place it in a separate plain paper, or polythene-lined, plain inner sleeve. I am very conscientious and careful when packaging your LP(s).

I consider my postage & packaging costs to be very transparent & very fair. Packaging costs will generally be between £0.80 to £1.50. I am not adding any further costs for handling, etc...
