 Recently a friend passed away - he was a gem of a person, and aside from the obvious sadness involved in all that, he was renowned for having one of the best collections of 60's Garage, Beat, Punk & Psychedelic 7"s, EPs and LPs (especially of Australian artists) - gathered together meticulously and carefully for longer than the 36 year period I'd known him. Some things he'd parted with over the past few years of little work and continuing overheads, and a small section was stolen by someone also well-known here (I suspect her karma will come) - but the bottom line is, he had amazingly good taste, and (like a previous recent collection I was selling here) the gems he had were mostly handpicked for excellence....[with some others gathered to complete (often very obscure) label collections].

Mono original with flipback cover...

THE MUSIC: the idea is that all of Side One are the 'Hits' - it features in order, the A and B sides of their first 3 singles (the A sides were all #1 hits in Sydney)..and Side Two are the 'Brass' component...now, this might suggest something jazzy, or maybe mellow R&B, but NO WAY - these are full blown garage punkers and tough R&B and yes, each has horns in the mix there somewhere...BUT...don't let that put you off - ever heard horns with a fuzztone effect mixed in with fierce garage guitar solo-ing?...well this side is full of it - try their monster version of "Neighbour Neighbour" for starters - it's a loud and ugly growling gutter-crawling wailing garage-y R&B leviathan - scary stuff!...and Dylan's "Maggie's Farm" is turned into a blistering garage-y R&B pounder like you've never heard a Dylan song done before...

This LP is TRULY one of thee greatest Australian garage LPs...it is way up there with The Missing Links, Ray Hoff And The Off-Beats, and Mike Furber And The Bowery Boys LPs - I'm dead serious!

CONDITION:

COVER: (VG+[+])...

VINYL: (VG-)...has quite a few marks (visually), but no major scratches, and it plays through really well...with a few crackles (most of which are drowned out by the wild uptempo music within!)...

LABELS: (Side One: EX / Side Two: EX-)...
