Description
The Left Banke’s Walk Away Renée / Pretty Ballerina, released in 1967 on Smash Records, catalog number SRS-67088. This is an original U.S. stereo pressing featuring the red Smash labels and the band’s distinctive psychedelic portrait cover.
One of the defining albums of 1960s baroque pop, the record combines rock instrumentation with harpsichord, strings and classical-style arrangements. Keyboardist and songwriter Michael Brown wrote both title hits, while his father, violinist and producer Harry Lookofsky, helped shape the unusually sophisticated sound. “Walk Away Renée” reached the Billboard Top 5, while “Pretty Ballerina” became another major hit and enduring example of the genre.
Also included are collector favorites such as “She May Call You Up Tonight,” “Barterers and Their Wives,” “Shadows Breaking Over My Head,” “I Haven’t Got the Nerve” and “Lazy Day.”
Record plays NM- audio. The vinyl grades VG+ visually, showing light marks and normal signs of handling that do not prevent excellent playback. The red Smash labels grade NM-.
The original jacket grades VG+ with rubbing, edge and corner wear, a small area of surface loss near the upper-left front, and the previous owner’s name written near the upper-right back. The Smash Records company inner sleeve grades VG+ and shows normal age and handling wear.
Please review all photographs closely. They show the exact record, labels, jacket and company sleeve included and form an important part of the condition description.
NOTE: Please consider that your audio equipment blows mine away and the record will invariably sound better on your system. Also, I do not have the ability to professionally clean records and give one static brush before ONE sampling, then back into the sleeve and jacket. My goal is to give you all you need for a transparent purchasing experience.
