LP
One of Lena’s rarer albums, a great selection of songs from her 1982 BBC TV series – arrangements by Alan Roper and John Coleman.
LENA ZAVARONI rocketed to fame in 1974 with her recording of "Ma, He's Making Of The Pops". She was introduced to the British public on television's "Opportunity Knocks" at the end of 1973 and for five weeks running topped the charts with “Ma, He’s Making Eyes At Me" and became the youngest-ever artiste to appear on BBC Television's "Top Of The Pops”. She was the youngest-ever performer to appear on a Royal Variety Show, starring in two sell-out concerts at the world-famous London Palladium where later she topped the bill for a whole week at the tender age of 14! In the USA Lena turned in a stunning performance at a Hollywood Charity Gala starring Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball. When Lena was thirteen anorexia nervosa was diagnosed, and her weight dropped to 4 stone. From the age of sixteen she was regularly undergoing hospital treatment.
These recordings are a lasting memento to her unique talent. Lena sadly passed away in 1999 aged 35.
