Before the Beatles, as we know there was The Quarrymen, and in late 1957 the Quarrymen wanted to record and make their first record. So they went to Percy Francis Phillips home at 38 Kensington,Liverpool L7 where he had converted a 12ft square room into a recording studio. The five band members recorded That'll be the Day on the A side with Lennon as lead vocal and McCartney doing the harmonies. On the B side they recorded McCartney/Harrisons - In spite of all the danger. Again sung by Lennon. As the years passed there acetate record was thought lost until in 1981 fellow Quarrymen band member John Lowe re-discovered it and wanted to put it up for auction at Sothebys in London. It never made it to the auction house because Paul McCartney bought it from Lowe for an undisclosed sum. The record and sleeve I am selling came from that same house in Liverpool five years later Unfortunately for me it is not by the Quarrymen. I have played this record on my Teac system and it is a recording of a young boy singing two Christmas carols, not sure of the name on the label it may be Andrew G. Bennet. Which I believe was written by Mr Phillips himself because he did all the recordings. But with no disrespect to the singer and the song, It is the record label and sleeve that is of importance here and its significance to the first ever time Lennon / McCartney voices were ever recorded. This record is made of aluminium coated with acetate lacquer as were all of Phillips records.This 7in record is in EXCELLENT PLUS condition. The sleeve has a small tear to one edge but it is in Excellent Plus condition. If this item sells it will be sent as 1st class SIGNED for post at a cost of £4.45 within the UK ONLY. If it sells abroad it will cost more and be subject to the Global Shipping Programme. There are NO RETURNS on this item. This is an EXTREMELY RARE item to find and understandably I have put an undisclosed reserve on it. So if you want it happy bidding!
