HOU-LOPS, LES: Lonely Riverman/I Know (Apex 76984, CANADA 1965)


One of the better known Quebec 60's bands. In 1965 they came over to Europe (Holland, Belgium & France) as Les Têtes Blanches: five musketeers with bleached blonde hair, an idea they had stolen from another Quebecois group, Les Classels. A lawsuit from the Les Classels management forced them to return to their original band name. Around that time this single on Apex was released. “Lonely Riverman” is an outstanding primitive R&B/punk ballad with great shouting vocals and will be included on the upcoming DIGGIN' FOR GOLD VOL. 11 LP. The same song can be found in a different & much more polished version on Les Hou-Lops' all-English “Off” album from 1967. This 45 comes with a photocopy of the hyperrare pic sleeve.
