Originally released at the turn of the new millennium, 2000's Borders & Boundaries would serve as the fourth full-length from Gainesville, Florida ska punk legends Less Than Jake, celebrating its 25th anniversary just a little late. Following on from 1998's career height Hello Rockview, their next endeavour would be the last to feature both saxophonist Derron Nuhfer and trombonist Pete Anna, with a notable reduction in many of the big brass ska elements the band had become renowned for. While somewhat of a startling turn upon first listen, the material makes way for the infectious hooks and buoyant melodies that were always present but never offered such ample room to shine, evident as such on the anthemic 'Gainesville Rock City' and 'Look What Happened', while an ode to their departing bandmate Nuhfer and his approaching wedding comes with 'Pete Jackson Is Getting Married' (renamed after an Australian farmer due to Nuhfer's desire to not be immortalised as a song title). The album would also mark their first after departing Capitol Records and running into the embracing arms of Fat Wreck Chords; the label owned by one of their biggest influences and peers - Fat Mike of NOFX.
