Description
"THE PRESIDENT, LESTER YOUNG" released on NORGRAN RECORDS (MGN 1005) in 1954, was the great Saxophonist's first 12" release on Norgram, after a series of 10" releases on Cleff and 2 on Norgran. He is backed by OSCAR PETERSON, RAY BROWN, BARNEY KESSEL, and J.C. HEARD on 4 tracks, with JOHN LEWIS in the trio on 3 other tracks. This is one of the first batch of Lester Young LPs that I am putting up over the next week, with this 1 of 4 Norgrans with the other 3 LPs and Covers in STUNNING NM and NM+ shape! THESE ARE ALL FIRST PRESSINGS!
The LP is in NEAR MINT condition, and appears that it has been played 2 or 3 times judging by the visible spindle marks on the labels, with 2 or 3 visible surface or sleeve marks on each side which on playing leave No noticeable affect, with no other scratches or marks on the clean, nice-gloss vinyl. There is a very low level background noise, probably from having been played with a less than great needle on one of the plays. It is not distracting. The classic yellow "trumpet" Norgran first pressing labels (Scan 4) are in NM shape.
The Cover is in strong VERY GOOD PLUS condition, with the seams showing the main wear with each of them showing some white - mainly on the left top and left & right bottom but with no splits. The corners show the same wear and are rounded but fine, while the front and back show medium-light wear as seen in scans. Quite nice
