Description

LP by Lightnin' Hopkins entitled "Lightnin' and the Blues" released in 1960 on Herald (LP-1012). Original US mono pressing with solid black labels. Spectacular sleeve art. The vinyl is in exceptional condition. It's EX+/M- with just a couple small, slight, superficial scratch marks in one area on one side. Overall, it's super clean! The cover has a laminated front slick. The slick was placed just a bit to the right of it's intended position, so there is a thin vertical strip of exposed mounting paper visible along the front cover next to the spine (see photo). The back cover has a couple letters rubber stamped at the lower right corner. Along the very top of the back cover, and upper and lower left corner areas, there is some fairly subtle discoloration from what appears to be general exposure. These discolored areas are sort of shaped like the album was perhaps once stored with an inner sleeve behind it. It doesn't look like moisture staining to me, but I'm not 100% conclusive. Either way, the back cover doesn't look too bad at all, at least not in my opinion (please view photos). The upper and lower seams and spine look ok, but when I first got the album, there was some paper cracking and flaking in spots and the spine center was splitting a couple inches (actually not exactly splitting, but more like some pieces of the paper were "separating"). Nonetheless, I did carefully apply a little bit of clear glue here and there where needed to get the seams and spine back in good order. They look fine now and there is virtually no evidence of any restorative efforts. This cover was originally constructed with just a single, very thin layer of seam paper and I'd strongly suggest this album now be stored with the vinyl outside of the cover for best preservation. This album of course resides way up there with his other LP, the mighty "Mojo Hand". Personally, I prefer the more upbeat tracks on this one.
I use oversized LP mailers with plenty of bubble wrap to fully protect the cover's corners and edges during transit. Sealed albums are strapped between cardboard flats to secure the vinyl inside and prevent splits.
This album is guaranteed as described or I will gladly provide a full refund including shipping costs both ways.
