Description
Lili Kraus, born Budapest, Hungaria, April 3, 1903, died in Asheville, North Carolina US, November 6, 1986. Studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and at the Budapest Conservatory with Arthur Schnabel, Zoltan Kodaly and Bela Bartok, later in Vienna with Severin Eisenberger, Eduard Steuermann. Lili Kraus became known as a spezialist in Mozart and Beethoven. In the 1930s, she toured Europe, Australia, Japan and South Africa, in 1940 she embarked on a tour of Asia where in Java she was captured and interned since 1943. After the war, she settled in New Zealand and resumed her career, teaching and touring extensively. From 1967 to 1983 she taught at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
