LILLIAN WEBB "THE LITTLE WHILE WE'RE HERE" DAVE McKENNA NICE PRIVATE PRESS LP SADBIRD RECORDS
When you hear this record you can see why local S.E. MA promoter, entrepreneur, Carl Germain spared no expense on this Private Press hiring a ton of strings & top-rate musicians, including the late R.I. legend Dave McKenna. Miss Webb's influences are obvious: Billie, Sarah, Dinah & Anita & while it would be overstating the case to say that she belongs in that pantheon, nevertheless echoes of all of the above come through & this is an extremely well-crafted & pleasant record to listen if you're a fan of female jazz vocalists as I am.
Not so pleasantly & allegedly, MR. WEBB was involved in mob activity & was charged w/killing a State Trooper in PA & Lillian allegedly hid him in a secret room in her house for two decades.
I'm pretty sure that this is the same Lillian Webb, not only based on geography but in one newspaper photo, taken w/her husband in 1975, if you compare that to the picture on the LP cover, it seems to be the same person.
If I'm mistaken (although I don't think so) I apologize to Miss Webb the singer in advance. If you're interested, google her & see for yourself.
Regardless of later facts, this is a pretty decent album by any standard, but particularly considering it's a private press LP.
cover mint, still in shrink--vinyl & label in EX cond & plays quite nicely
