LINDA JONES
HYPNOTIZED
A word in support of an artist who will probably be passed over by 999 listeners out of 1000. Her biggest hit, the tastefully restrained "Hypnotized," came on the Loma subsidiary of Warner Brothers in 1967, but her later recordings for Turbo were probably the most gloriously histrionic soul records of all time.
Linda unfortunately died in 1972 of a drug overdose between gigs at the Apollo; it was decided to have her memory protected to put the spin on her death as resulting from her longtime struggle with diabetes.
Gladys Knight claims that Jones is her favorite singer. Key tracks here are "I Can't Stop Lovin' My Baby" and "Hypnotized" but other songs, other Northern Soul classics are here too. This is an original pressing on Loma Records from June of 1967.
