Only two covers here and one track written by brother Doug. DESCRIPTION, the following comes from the Light In The Attic website (also printed on the front of the spine obi) with some editing and comments by me:

Fred Lincoln ‘Link’ Wray, Jr. (1929-2005) born of Shawnee Native American parents was an American rock and roll guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist who became popular in the late 1950s. Though he began in country music, his musical style went on to consist primarily of rock and roll, rockabilly, and instrumental rock. Building on the distorted electric guitar sound (achieved by cranking small amps to the max) of early records, his 1958 instrumental hit Rumble (banned in New York and Boston for fear it would incite teenage gang violence) popularized "the power chord” which laid the foundation to modern rock music. Link’s previous releases had proven the man’s versatility with influences coming from many different genres including R&B, country, blues, and, of course, rock. Be What You Want To continues this trend: a thick stew of boogie-rock, country-funk, and Americana with lots of soul. Wray employed (actually this was producer Thomas Jefferson Kaye’s idea; Wray liked to keep it simple “Why do we need another guitarist and a chorus of background singers?”) a huge number of musicians to play on Be What You Want To, including Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia (Link was frustrated and felt that he and his music were getting lost in the crowd, but Jerry talked him out of walking out on the sessions), Thomas Jefferson Kaye, & Commander Cody and members of The Lost Planet Airmen. Of course, the main part of the talent comes from Link Wray himself. His amazing ability as lyricist (not his strong point), songwriter, and musician is noticeably brought to the fore on this album (Link has commented that he felt his role/performance on this album was buried in the production; this isn’t like the sound recorded at Wray’s Shack – Three Track). Link Wray leaves a legacy as big as his career: Rolling Stone placed Wray at No. 45 of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time and in 2013 he was a nominee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Pete Townshend of The Who once said, “If it hadn’t been for Link Wray and Rumble, I never would have picked up a guitar.” Other musicians citing him as a major influence are Iggy Pop, Neil Young, & Jimmy Page (amongst others). Originally released on Polydor, this is the first time the album gets the vinyl treatment since 1973. Now available as a gorgeously packaged deluxe vinyl edition, exclusively for Record Store Day 2017. Strictly limited to 2500 copies. SIDE BAR:  The Polydor era (including the Mordicai Jones [aka Bobby Howard, Link’s piano/mandolin player at the time] album) is where I jumped on the Link Wray bandwagon (I had but just one Wray 45 up to this point, from the Columbia years and bought out of the cut-out singles bin). My comments from above aside, if Link Wray’s name is on the album you should own it! This guy is the real deal!! I’ve got all three Polydor albums plus the Mordicai Jones album, then moved on to the two for Virgin Records then worked backwards and forwards from there. The resulting sound on this album is different from his trademark guitar riffage recordings, but no less effective and affecting. The fact that Link felt a little like a fish out of water during these sessions is part of the tension and energy here that makes this a great album to own. If you’re new to Link I would recommend picking up a collection or two of his early recordings (late 50s thru the mid-60s). His mid-60s recordings for Swan Records are excellent (out of print, but worth it if you can find it, is Mr. Guitar issued by Norton Records in 1995, a 2-CD set of 63 tracks from the vaults of Swan with some previously unissued tracks), jumping forward to 1979 is the Bullshot album issued on Visa Records.which features his blazing guitar work, slightly updated but with that bare bones style and a killer performance.

If you have any questions or if you have additional information, especially corrections, to the description, please e-mail me. I particularly enjoy when an artist, band member, or someone who has personal background knowledge of a particular album/artist and offers their insight/information of that recording, which I will include with the description for future listings of that release. As a collector of many years, part of the hobby side for me is to learn about the background of the artists and music that I collect. Hopefully, sharing some of this information in my descriptions will help educate and enhance your listening experience.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

All packages are shipped via first class package international service (air); this is the least expensive method of shipping internationally, but does not necessarily meet all the conditions of Paypal’s buyer/seller protection plan. First Class Package International Service does not offer tracking. NOTE:  First Class Package International Service has a 4 lb. weight limit, if your purchase exceeds that weight limit the next cheapest option is Priority Package International Service (usually up to 4 LPs will have a total weight less than 4 lbs.). Though quicker and safer, Priority Package International Service is determined at a higher rate than First Class Package International Service. If security is a major concern then please request Registered Mail, available upon request and at your expense, this is the least expensive method of providing extra security for your package and it allows the US post office to internally track your package should it become lost (I have yet to have a package lost via this method); actual postal charge for registration is $13.95 in addition to the shipping total (required on all bids/purchases totaling $100 or more; this will be included with the invoiced shipping total). Priority Mail International and Express Priority Mail International are available upon request and at your expense. If you have any special needs of your purchase or you have any questions please e-mail me.

RETURN POLICY:

Please e-mail me with specific details and I will get back to you with your options. I ask that if there is a problem with the item that you contact me as soon as possible after receiving it. Any item that must be returned is done so at the buyer’s expense. Any refund, exchange, or substitution/credit will be at the buyer’s choice, but not made until the original item is received back by me; in the condition as stated in the item description.

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

US Customers:  Please wait at least two weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. All packages are shipped with confirmation/tracking, you will received an automatically generated shipping notice from Ebay e-mail with your tracking number. It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

INTERNATIONAL Customers:  Please wait at least 3 weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. If security is your concern please have your package registered (see above for fee). I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country.

ALL CUSTOMERS:  If there is a problem with your purchase please e-mail me first with details before filing a resolution. I will file a non-payment resolution if payment is not received within 7 days of your purchase unless you contact me with your needs. However if, for any reason, you decide not to follow through with your purchase please avoid a non-payment resolution and initiate a cancellation of the sale; this is not a problem to which I will gladly respond in acceptance.
