Description

LINTON KWESI JOHNSON MAKING HISTORY 1984 Mango Original US 1st Press MLPS 9770

DESCRIPTION

Making History is a landmark album by Linton Kwesi Johnson, blending dub reggae with politically charged spoken word poetry. Released during a peak period of social unrest in the UK, the record documents themes of racism, class struggle, labor politics, and Black British identity with clarity and urgency.

This album features key tracks including “Di Great Insohreckshan,” “Reggae Fi Radni,” and the title track “Making History,” all produced in collaboration with Dennis Bovell, whose deep, spacious dub production is essential to the album’s power. It stands as one of LKJ’s most important and influential releases.

This copy is the original U.S. first pressing on Mango Records, Island’s reggae-focused imprint in the United States. Issued with the MLPS 9770 catalog number, this was the first U.S. release of the album, distinct from the UK Island Records edition. The vinyl is exceptionally clean and is paired with the original inner sleeve, making this a strong collector example of a key roots/dub title.
