Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Called the Sandells at the time of this 53 year old artifact...
They started life as the Shadows and then the Twangs, who were "discovered" by World Pacific Records after becoming the Sandells. They were heavily influenced by the mid '60s surf greats. The Sandells once advised they only occasionally used the staccato Surf style live, and they much preferred the dry sound to reverb. They ended up recording the title track for Bruce Brown's seminal surf film The Endless Summer. By the time the film emerged, they had changed their name again to the Sandals.
BEST picks on the record: Scrambler, 6-Pak, Driftin', Theme From 'The Endless Summer', Good Greeves, Decoy, Out Front, Wild As The Sea, Trailing, Jet Black, Lonely Road, TR-6
Track by Track Review
Scrambler
"Scrambler" sports an infectious rhythm and sparse lead guitar. The tone is dry, yet aquatic and appealing. The thinness of the arrangement is part of its charm, as is the shallow whammy bar effect on the guitar work.
6-Pak
This is a splendid melody, with a warm sunny day feel and adequate twang to live in the surf despite its complete lack of reverb. Quite excellent.
Driftin'
This clzassic Shadows tune is chunked and thumped like the Shadows never did it. Rhythmic and energetic, and stylistically Sandals.
Theme From 'The Endless Summer'
Classic Film Score Surf
"Theme From The Endless Summer" is a world renowned tune. It incorporates nontraditional instruments and has been an influence to many others. The use of melodica is particularly interesting.
Good Greeves
A sorta carnival organ guides this tune through a relentless progression with little to break the sameness, except for a few blues bars of guitar jam.
Decoy
This tune starts with interesting chords, then drops right into a fine hook and simple melody line. It's playful, but still intense enough. Dramatic without being pompous. The pumping keys are so groovy. A fine classic track.
Out Front
Fast paced, ringing chords, and an unchanging progression. Energetic, and note it's very interesting.
Wild As The Sea
This is a slow and familiar tune, with a wistfully breezy lilt to it, and an almost siesta imagery. It's not fast, but rather a romantic mid tempo number employing sultry vibrato and melodica. Nice listening.
Trailing
"Trailing" is a high school pomp and stroll with noodly guitar and a bit of shimmer. Pimpled line dances abound.
Jet Black
Plunky, salsa and chips, watery twang, and tequila worms seem to float through this Jet Harris tune, with it's quirky tango beat, and occasional injections of "jet black." Very fun track.
Lonely Road
Exotic percussion, a Latin rhythm, and a gentle wispy melody played on a dry and plaintiff guitar. Pretty, but not dominating. A good backdrop to the floatier side of the evening. References to the Endless Summer theme are many, with the melody being shared in spots.
TR-6
This is thee surf monster here, thumpy, pumped, dynamic, whammy dipped, and intense. Major energy spews from every corner. A picker's dream, it flows with a rolling swell, employing double picked rhythmic guitar chops and ringing chords. Even the drum break is interesting. What a big surf - garage RARE this is!
