The covers are of uniform design with a different content box at front right. There is an extensive, well illustrated 44 page booklet
These are from Welte-Mignor "Vorsetzer" piano rolls. Passed on to Richard Simonson by Welte, these recordings are from the master-rolls, stored during World War II in a cave. See the booklet for the story. Eventually, they were obtained by Walter S. Heebner, a record producer from RCA Capitol, etc., who put a well-functioning instrument, the rolls and considerable recording expertise together and made these recordings. (see his entry in Wikioedia).
The piano was the 9' Steinway 261, reserved for Artur Rubinstein's west coast appearances.
I don't know how many of these rolls have been on LP or CD previously or subsequently. I've not seen this before and don't believe it was available in stores or, for that matter, know how it was distributed.
Condition: These came from the Music Library at Catholic University.
Records: E+. S. 1 has a long scratch that sounds lightly- perhaps a dozen ticks. The rest appear E+. One label of each record has a black circular paper band applied and adhering to the area at the edge of the label circle, a security ring, I'm told. I assume the security system was set off if a malefactor attempted to filch them. As always, a thorough cleaning will reduce or eliminate stray noises.
Booklet E++
Sleeves: Each has a library sticker at the front top. Otherwise, they all look E++. No splits or marks worth mentioning.
Slipcase: A split along the bottom has been clear taped. Shelf wear. Sticker at upper left as with the records and a paper bruise below it where another has been reomevd. Bar code sticker at back top center.
To these ears, these rolls sound more believable than those made using the other systems, with more definition of the distinctive sound qualities of each pianist.
Shipping: $ 4 to U.S. Elsewhere, calculated by location of buyer.
