to quote from Tom Doyles Captain Fantastic Book this concert was a watershed event for Elton John
By December, still only Nineteen years old, Reg ( Dwight) was appearing on the same stage as one of his formative heroes, opening with Bluesology for Little Richard at the Saville Theatre in London. Once again, though , the group faced an audience of enraged blues hating rockers ,who threw motorcycle parts at them during their set while chanting Off... Off...Off
When the headliner took the platform,Reg was astounded to witness his idol at such proximity, standing like a returning king atop his piano, pulsating with energy, a vision in sequins and light. He decided right there and then , his mission from now on, however long it might take him was to become a bedazzling rock n roll piano star.
