Description
ARTIST: Little Willie John
TITLE: Fever
LABEL: King 1st press black "crownless" textured label. 564 mono.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
YEAR: 1956
COVER CONDITION: a solid/nice G+. Looks great!!! Top and bottom have been taped. The top seam tape has been removed, and the split has been repaired. There is tape-residue, but it isn't intrusive. There are 2 tiny signatures on the rear cover. Otherwise, this is a fine example, of this extremely rare item. NO tears. Spine is intact.
VINYL CONDITION: G+ easily the best copy I've ever seen, and way better than most 50s King LPs I see. Most are trashed, this is not. Nice and glossy, with the inevitable scratches and scuffs. No bad and deep scratches. Side two is closer to VG. Labels look great. A really respectable copy.
DETAILS: Withdrawn original copy. This was later replaced by a different cover. Book value on this baby is $1200. Don't miss out on this awesome rarity!!! Back cover has a great picture of Little Willie John, with some ads for other King LPs, including Bill Doggett.
Little Willie John was among the dominant R&B vocalists of the late '50s and early '60s, and one of those best equipped to make the transition to soul. His dramatic style, passionate delivery, and gospel/blues-tinged approach were ideal for the types of anguished, personalized songs that became the hallmark of the soul era. While "Fever" did well for John, it was a huge hit for Peggy Lee. It and everything else on the album was done in magnificent fashion by John. His albums were briefly available again during the early '70s in a Gusto/King reissue line, but have since disappeared again.
