Description

LITTLE WILLIE JOHN
I'M SHAKIN'

Here's a pair of sides from the vastly under-rated Little Willie John. He had a style that many others copied, taking R&B in the 50's and helping form it into what would be called 'soul music' in the '60s. But alas, Little Willie John wouldn't be able to share in it. By the time he early '60s were coming around, his drinking and his bad temper was getting the better of him, eventually leading to his incarceration, and subsequent death in 1968.

This single is from May of 1960. Somehow, leather-eared DJs picked up his remake of the old Guy Lombardo tune "A Cottage For Sale" as the top of this record. No wonder it stalled at #63.

ON THE OTHER SIDE is a killer song called "I'm Shakin'" You gotta check this one out !  He even works in a quote from his previous hit "Fever." And if it sounds a bit familiar, it could be because you recall The Blasters cutting a version of this for Slash in1981.
