Description
THE WORLD wanted to make CANTOR JOSEPH ROSENBLATT into a multi-media star, on records, in movies and on the operatic stage. Possessed of a colossal, uniquely beautiful, world-beating voice, Rosenblatt refused to succumb to such blandishments, insisting on singing only the ancient Cantorial Hebrew hymns, which his congregation at Temple Ohab Zedek in Harlem couldn't believe their luck they were hearing.
The World came to Rosenblatt anyway, accommodating his strict Hebraic faith to records, radio and movies ("The Jazz Singer"). But even earnest entreaties from Enrico Caruso, over Manischevitz and matzo balls, couldn't persuade Yossele to sing secular roles at the Met.
Recorded in 1927, the year he appeared in "The Jazz Singer," Rosenblatt sings the Hebrew hymn "LORD OF THE WORLD," making some out-of-this-world sounds. His utter virtuosity, especially his magnificent falsetto singing (there's a brilliant cadenza of ONLY that toward the end of this record), will just floor you. You don't have to be Jewish to appreciate Yossele Rosenblatt!
This original 1927 Red Seal Victor 9072 is in lovely EE- condition.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
