Description
Here is one of the most sought after more recent vinyl records; a very rare limited US pressing of the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's mighty "Lost In Translation". Released in 2003 on Emperor Norton Records with an exclusive variant cover to the CD so instead of Bill's front you get Scarlett's back;)
Condition: Since I've owned this since new, immediately put it in a polylinered inner and played it only a couple of times I'd love to advertise this as Near Mint but... not going to happen because unfortunately Emperor Norton's whole edition is not exactely audiophile. Back in 2003 I went through three copies and all had the same issue: More surface noise than one would want (or expect) from a record like this. When my dealer told me that he had multiple returns of this album and most likely ALL copies where like that I kept the best for myself because I WANTED this on vinyl sooooo bad. In all these years I've never met someone with a copy that played Excellent or better throughout. They all had these flaws:(
So: IF you are an audiophile and want to enjoy this amazing soundtrack in analogue and on high end equipment: Forget it, not going to happen. Cling to the CD, stay away from the vinyl version.
Which is not to say this pressing was unlistenable. It's not. In fact the mastering is great, the music sounds fantastic but the pressing is crappy, resulting in surface noise especially on Side Two. If you can tolerate that and approach this from a collector's rather than an audiophile's position then this is a nice and rare collectable that usually commands prices above £100.
The cover is excellent, great shape. The vinyl still looks and sounds as it did when I bought it. In this case that means various light surface marks. Visually this is Very Good with a sonic performance that ranges between Very Good - and Excellent. There is surface noise especially on Side Two. And I'm really being conservative here.
