Description

LOUIS SMITH jazz LP BLUE NOTE 1584 orig W63 DG mono ear RVG FLANAGAN nice! HEAR

Artist:  LOUIS SMITH

Title:   “Here Comes Louis Smith”

Label:   BLUE NOTE.  Monaural first pressing on heavy vinyl.  Label is blue/white with blue text, with deep groove on both sides.  No “R” registry symbol.  Catalog number is BLP 1584.

“RVG” and Plastylite (ear) symbol are stamped in the dead wax on both sides.

Label address is:  BLUE NOTE RECORDS  *  47 WEST 63rd  *  NYC.

Jacket address is:  BLUE NOTE RECORDS,  47 West 63rd St., New York 23

Personnel:

Louis Smith – trumpet

“Buckshot La Funke” – alto sax (aka Cannonball Adderley)

Duke Jordan, Tommy Flanagan – piano

Doug Watkins – bass

Art Taylor - drums.

Condition:

DISC:  EXCELLENT with 100% of original gloss, appears to have been played a very small number of times, perhaps once or twice and handled with care.  There are a couple very minor hairline scuffs, not audible, no serious marks.  No audible ticks or distractions except for four soft ticks at approximately 3:45 on Side 1, Track 2 (Brill’s Blues).

Absolutely no underlying surface noise.  Fidelity is clean and awesome.  Labels are clean with no spindle trail marks.  You will be hard pressed to find a nicer disc.

JACKET:  Jacket is nice VG+ with nice bright artwork, but also with a couple noteworthy flaws.  Laminated front panel is clean, except for light moisture staining around the right corners.  (Moisture did not affect the disc in any way).

Nice seams and spine, except bottom seam has some red markings and the bottom right corner is just starting to split at the opening, less than one inch.  Bottom right corner is slightly curled, which continues to a lesser extent up along the right opening edge.  Reverse has no writing or stickers, but there are some light moisture stains along the bottom and along the left edge.  No writing, stickers, or other issues.  Not perfect, but will be quite acceptable to most collectors, given the rarity in combination with the beautiful disc.
