LOVE – Da Capo ORIG Elektra LP / EKL 4005 (UK, Mono, 1967)
Happy to present this super sounding UK Mono original of Love’s 2nd LP, the first side of which is possibly one of the greatest collections of stone cold classics – 6 quality baroque psych masterpieces, one after the other – pure psychedelic gold.
As with the majority of initial UK 1st presses this copy has the UK pressed record in the US printed hard card sleeve. This one is very pleasing but it does have the usual light rubbing you see on this non-laminate. Only 1 faint crease to the rear, no real creasing at all to the front. Lies very flat with no ‘rippling’, corners still very solid showing slight wear. Some edge rubs to top and bottom – not too heavy. Spine is still totally intact – all text still intact but slightly browned with age. Nice sharp opening edges, not much feathering. NO splits, tears ,writing and no discernible ring wear. Some age toning to the rear. Still very strong and firm to hold and all in all a pleasing VG+ (Very Good Plus).
The orangey red textured Elektra labels are fine without writing, stickers or residue, colour still vivid and not a whole lot of spindle evidence. Pleasing 1967 labels.
The sharp medium/heavy weight vinyl is above average for this title. As you may know this is, for the most part, quite a loud LP but the album’s quieter tunes such as ‘Orange Skies’ and ‘The Castle’ have fabulous audio with little unwanted surface noise. Visually, there’s some light scuffing to both sides (not instantly noticeable), some faint hairlines and two more prominent (small) marks, one per side, none affecting the play. Still maintains very good shine, no ugly deep marks and no feelable scratches. So, looks around VG+ (Very Good Plus). IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays EX with real satisfying, clear mono sound. Just a touch of underlying crackle UNDER never over the music, a few light ticks at the beginning of ‘Revelation’ and some light ticks here and there, hardly worth mentioning. That means NO snap, no severe crackle, no repeated clicks, no pops and no hiss. No distortion or loss of clarity at all. A very enjoyable listen indeed!
It has the A-1/B-1 matrices and the ’11-66’ hand etched in to the run offs. A nice copy of this UK Mono 1st with plenty life left.

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades. After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN? What is NM+? Or EX---? These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay. I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade. Excellent, by dictionary definition means ‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
