·       LOVE featuring ARTHUR LEE - FOREVER CHANGES – ORIGINAL (?) 1967 ELEKTRA  STEREO LP EKS-74013

·       ORIGINAL (?) U.S. PRESSING

*** STILL SEALED BELIEVED TO BE THE ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING ***

WHY DO WE BELIEVE THAT THIS PRESSING CONTAINS THE ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING ON TAN (GOLD) LABEL? THIS IS FAIRLY EASY TO EXPLAIN: THE APPEARANCE, CONSTRUCTION, AND TEXTURE OF THE ORIGINAL, FIRST COVER, WHICH IS THE ONE WE HAVE HERE (THIN PAPERBOARD COVER , SLIGHTLY TEXTURED / COARSE) IS CONSISTENT O-N-L-Y WITH THE FIRST TWO PRESSINGS OF THIS TITLE: EITHER THE FIRST PRESSING ON TAN (GOLD) LABEL, WHICH WAS IN PRINT BETWEEN MID-1967 AND EARLY 1969  = OR = WITH THE EXQUISITELY RARE SECOND PRESSING ON RED ELEKTRA LABEL WITH LARGE WHITE "E" LOGO ON TOP, WHICH WAS IN USE VERY BRIEFLY, BETWEEN EARLY 1969 AND EARLY 1970 (THIS LABEL IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A SIMILAR-LOOKING "SMALL E" LABEL FROM THE LATE '70s, WHICH IS FAIRLY COMMON).  STARTING WITH THE THIRD PRESSING (ON BUTTERFLY LABEL, CIRCA LATE 1970), THE COVER VISIBLY CHANGES IN CONSTRUCTION AND FINISH: AT FIRST (1970-1972) ELEKTRA USED STIFF CARDBOARD COVERS FOR THE THIRD AND FOURTH PRESSINGS (ON BUTTERFLY LABELS) AND  THEN SWITCHED BACK TO THE THIN PAPERBOARD COVERS, BUT WITH THE GLOSSY, SHINY FINISH FOR ALL PRESSINGS AFTER 1973. THEREFORE, WE BELIEVE THAT THE COPY WE HAVE HERE CAN ONLY HOLD ONE OF THE FIRST TWO PRESSING: EITHER GOLD, OR RED. HOWEVER, THERE'S A CATCH: BECAUSE THE SECOND PRESSINGS ARE ACTUALLY DOZENS OF TIMES RARER THAN THE ORIGINAL PRESSINGS ON GOLD LABEL, STATISTICALLY SPEAKING, THE BUYER ACTUALLY STANDS A MUCH BETTER CHANCE OF FINDING THE ORIGINAL GOLD LABEL THAN THE SECOND PRESSING ON RED LABEL. PLEASE CONTACT US IF ANY QUESTIONS ARISE

PLEASE NOTE: THIS ITEM COMES FROM THE INCREDIBLE, SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION WE ACQUIRED A WHILE AGO, IN WHICH ITEMS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BY THE OWNER FROM THE MID-'60s to THE MID-'70s WERE KEPT STILL SEALED IN A NEAR-LABORATORY, TIME-CAPSULE CONDITIONS AND IN PRACTICALLY CLIMATE- AND HUMIDITY- CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.  CONDITIONS OF SOME OF THESE ITEMS RANGE FROM IMPECCABLE TO TRULY UNBELIEVABLE. SOME OF THESE BEAUTIFUL MUSEUM PIECES LOOKED SO PERFECT THAT WE HAD TO REINSPECT AND RE-EXAMINE THEM A FEW TIMES TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT RECENT REISSUES (REST ASSURED THEY ARE NOT -- THESE ARE ALL 40-50 YEAR OLD STILL SEALED ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSINGS AS YOU MAY NEVER FIND AGAIN!!)

·       BELIEVED TO BE PRESSED ON THE ORIGINAL GOLD (TAN) ELEKTRA LABEL, MID-'60s STYLE

·       ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK ALBUMS OF THE LAST 50 YEARS – THE UNIVERSALLY ACCLAIMED MASTERPIECE

·       THIS IS (PROBABLY) THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.

·       ORIGINAL, THIN CARDBOARD COVER (NO THICK CARDBOARD COVERS WERE EVER PRODUCED FOR THIS TITLE, EXCEPT FOR SOME EARLY '70s REISSUES)

·       FAIRLY THICK VINYL PRESSING On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the thickness of the vinyl as 7.

(?PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE OF THE COVER, LABEL OR BOTH, SHOWN BELOW)

(Note: this is a REAL image of the ACTUAL item you are bidding on. This is NOT a "recycled" image from our previous auction. What you see is what you'll get.  GUARANTEED!)

Probably one of the very few albums that can invoke a total, universal consensus: this is one of the most beautiful - and important - albums of the rock era. Recorded in mid-1967, just as LOVE's original line-up was about to disintegrate, Elektra’s house producer and engineer, Bruce Botnick (who went on to record and produce virtually every Doors’ album) assembled a stellar studio band - which included, among others, Hal Blaine, legendary studio drummer - to support the faltering "Love" members while they were bickering in the studio. The impact of this "parallel" group of musicians was swift and massive: the band somehow perceived them as a competition and a threat, and managed to regain its composure and creativity and  to create one of the most enduring minor-key masterpieces ever committed to vinyl. If you have never heard this album, take my word: you are missing a lot. The album aged better than 99% of its contemporaries and attained a genuine cult status. Cited by many rock stars as their source of inspiration (various members of Led Zeppelin and Fairport Convention come to mind), the impact this majestic album still exerts on rock music (and aesthetics) cannot be overestimated. Finally, the cover art for this album is one of the most memorable and recognizable visual presentations in all of contemporary music, and a great artistic accomplishment to boot. So much so that Arthur Lee himself mimicked it on his `Forever Changes Reunion Tour` album.

For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship,  revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). For more details, see: "Critics Choice: Top-200 albums" compiled by Paul Gambaccini, Omnibus Press, Library of Congress Catalog No.7855565 (or  click here  for the complete album listing)

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(a)          THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ?click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID).

(b)          The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve (the seal is so tight that we could not determine which generation of the inner sleeve this copy uses, but we are certain it is there)

(c)             The record is  apparently  pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.
