HANK MOBLEY & HIS ALL STARS “same" (BLUE NOTE 1544) original late 1950s USA pressing

ULTRA RARE! Classic 1957 jazz release on the perennially collectable Blue Note label. Features MILT JACKSON, HORACE SILVER, DOUG WATKINS and ART BLAKEY. Songs include "Reunion", "Ultramarine", "Don't Walk", "Lower Stratosphere" and "Mobley's Musings".

I'm not an expert, so will list as much information on this release as possible. I believe this is a really early ORIGINAL PRESSING, though perhaps not a true first press due to label variation on one side, and deep groove on side two only. But certainly a late 1950s ORIGINAL PRESS... read on!

Sleeve is original paste-on back with "BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd St., New York 23" address at bottom - no mention of "INC."

Side 2 label has "BLUE NOTE RECORDS • 47 West 63rd St. • New York 23" and features a deep groove. Run-out has "RVG" and a squiggle which I presume is the "ear" mark! No "R" under Blue Note logo.

Side 1 label has the very subtley different "BLUE NOTE RECORDS • 47 West 63rd • NYC" (so still has the full address, but replaces NEW YORK 23 with NYC - see pictures) and features a groove, though not quite as wide and not quite as deep. Run-out has "RVG" and again a squiggle which I presume is the "ear" mark. No "R" under Blue Note logo.

CONDITION : GOOD*/VG++ (Sleeve/Record) STRICT GRADING

DESCRIPTION : Heavyweight vinyl has a few light surface scuffs and the odd wee mark (one tiny wee scratch - barely audible), not affecting playback - still a great copy, plays really strong with the very faintest of crackle in quiet sections, maybe the odd light pop here and there. But music on here is loud and the album is cut LOUDER! *Sleeve isn't so great - the seams have worn so much that the front and back are completely separate. Sleeve lives in a PVC cover, so still looks presentable - and COULD be carefully glued or taped by an enthusiast. Apart from this, ahem, minor problem, the front image is in pretty good shape and the back just has a small 1" tear on top left corner and some minor discolouring consistent with an album of this age. No writing or marks or anything distracting. Labels nice.

To sum up, a really good original playing copy of an album which regularly fetches $1000+ in top condition - this is a great copy to listen to and add to the collection if you aren't a mint freak!

SMALL PRINT : I am first and foremost a collector, and grade strictly as I wish everyone would. Records will be well-packed between cardboard, and sent in record mailers. In the interests of the environment, these will be recycled whenever possible. Albums will be removed from outer sleeve to avoid seam splits in transit. All records are sent with a certificate of posting, if you wish additional insurance please ask – I cannot be held responsible for missing parcels.
