LED ZEPPELIN "Led Zeppelin" (Atlantic 588171) original UK 1969 stereo 1st pressing (red/plum label)

CLASSIC PROGRESSIVE ROCK RARITY! Great playing copy of the very first pressing of Led Zeppelin's essential debut album. Identifiable as genuine first pressing by the following:

1) FRONT COVER - Fully laminated sleeve printed by "MacNeill Press Ltd." with TURQUOISE front lettering and ATLANTIC logo, with grey stripe along bottom edge, quickly withdrawn and replaced with later orange text.

2) LABEL - classic RED & PLUM Atlantic label, featuring the all important SUPERHYPE publishing credits, changed on later pressings

3) MATRIX - 588171 A//1 and 588171 B//1 - very earliest 1st press stampers. Many of the Superhype Turquoise sleeve pressings feature matrix runouts with scored out matrixes which have been amended. Only the very 1st pressings feature UNCORRECTED matrixes.

4) INNER SLEEVE - the "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS" poly-lined inner sleeve which came with Atlantic releases features a tiny date number on the bottom right corner - printing isn't too clear but ends in 69, indicating 1969 release.

CONDITION : VG+/VG+ (Sleeve/Record)

DESCRIPTION : The record has been played quite a bit, but well looked after - doesn't look like it went to too many crazy parties, like most utterly wrecked Led Zeppelin albums did! Vinyl has quite a few light surface scuffs, and one very light scratch across A2 (pretty much non-sounding on my equipment). I've played the album the whole way through (on my Rega Planar 3 turntable) and it sounds great - just some very light surface noise in quieter passages (of which there are few), and the odd light pop - this record is cut LOUD! On the whole it plays superbly, really amazing audio fidelity, and no distortion, jumps, groove wear or nasty clicks...

Labels are excellent, no writing or marks or wear round centre hole. Front cover is generally very good, fully intact, NO rips or tears or writing. The only thing bringing this down from EX is some light lamination creasing, but most noticeably on the lower half of the spine. There are a five small lamination creases, resulting in some yellow discolouring - which shows up since it's on a white background. I might be describing this worse than it is, see photos!

Inner sleeve shows light wear and some yellowing. Vinyl will be sent in brand new poly-lined inner.

To sum up, a most enjoyable copy of a VERY rare album which commands £1000+ in mint condition. Perfect for collectors who want to own and listen to a classic 1st press album, not mint condition collectors who want to store it in a vault...
