Description

Released in 1969 in a LIMITED PRESSING OF 1000 NUMBERED COPIES.  This copy is number 725. The jacket has light corner and edge wear, no splits or marks.  There is the faintest of rings front and back jacket.  The LP was stored in a plain white inner sleeve.  IT LOOKS GREAT.  I saw two faint scratches on careful visual inspection and little to no wear around spindle hole.  I will visually grade as VG++, although I would normally grade such an LP in the VG++ to NM range.  The record has been transferred from plain white inner sleeve to a plastic-lined inner sleeve and removed from the jacket for storage and shipment.
Tanner Suite is one of the most beautiful and by far the rarest of all of McNeill’s records, a unique piece of music especially commissioned by the Smithsonian National Gallery Of Art to accompany an exhibition of the work of Henry Ossawa Tanner, the first African-American painter ever to gain international success.  The music was recorded in the National Collection of Fine Arts, at the Tanner Exhibition, July 20, 1969.  The LP was released in 1969 as a private individually numbered pressing of 1000 copies on McNeill’s own Asha Record company.
