"Excellent" by my definition is a record without audible scratches, distortions (if not originally caused by the recording or cutting process) or othershortcomings. Records are mostly graded with old type cartridges like Ortofon SPU, Denon DL 103 e.g.. 'Modern' , more analytic cartridges sometimes may cause more groove or surface noise on vintage records.
