IKE TURNER KINGS OF RHYTHM A Black Mans Soul RARE PROMO  A MINT MINUS ORIGINAL LP ON POMPEII SD 6003  FROM 1969 A RARE STEREO (ELECTRONICALLY RE-RECORDED) PROMOTIONAL COPY WITH WHITE LABEL AND SAMPLE COPY NOT FOR SALE ON LABEL BOTH SIDES WITH ORANGE PROMOTIONAL STICKER ON FRONT COVER  Q: WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT A PROMOTIONAL LP? A: PROMOTIONAL LPS GENERALLY SPEAKING WERE THE FIRST PRESSINGS OF A PARTICULAR ISSUE TO BE HANDED OUT TO RADIO STATIONS, PERSONNEL AND OTHER PROMOTIONAL VENUES. MANY BELIEVE THE PROMO COPIES TO BE SUPERIOR IN SOUND QUALITY, SINCE THEY CAME OFF THE MOTHERS FIRST. A FUNKY LP PRODUCED BY IKE AND TINA TURNER  12 TRACKS INCLUDE THINKING BLACK, UP HARD, NUTTIN' UP, FREEDOM SOUND, GETTING NASTY, GHETTO FUNK, BLACK'S ALLEY, BLACK ANGEL, PHILLY DOG, SCOTTY SOULING, FUNKY MULE  COVER STOCK WITH SOME LIGHT RUB AND RING WEAR. SOME LIGHT OVERALL AGE DISCOLORATION MORE NOTICEABLE AROUND THE EDGES. CORNERS AND EDGES WITH SMALL BENDS. TOP CENTER EDGE WITH OUTER LAYER SPLIT ABOUT AN INCH. . APPEARS VERY GOOD OUT OF THE SLEEVE; UNDER BRIGHT ANGLED LIGHT SOME LIGHT SURFACE PAPER SLEEVE STORAGE CONTACT IMPRESSIONS FROM SHELVING.  Review  by Tim Sendra  When he was out on tour in 1969 with his regular gig, the Ike & Tina Turner Revue , Ike Turner found the time to cut the instrumental album A Black Man's Soul . Whenever he had some spare time he would drag the band into a local studio and lay down tracks, resulting in these 12 funky soul jams that sound like they were lifted from the soundtrack to a blaxploitation film. The band is tight and laid-back at once, with horns at the forefront most of the time. Turner came up with some fine grooves like "Thinking Black," "Getting Nasty" (with Billy Preston on piano), "Scotty Souling," "Nuttin' Up," and the monumental "Funky Mule." However, the record lacks Turner's usual fire and flair and ultimately is too polite and slick to be very memorable ("Funky Mule" aside).
