The catalog number USE 2 identifies the 1980 US reissue of Ian Dury’s debut masterpiece, New Boots and Panties!!. This pressing was released on Stiff America, the US-based branch of the legendary UK independent label Stiff Records.

While the original UK version was released in 1977, this 1980 US version is significant because it officially added Dury’s most famous anthem, "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll," which was not on the original UK tracklist.

Album Specifications

  • Artist: Ian Dury (The Blockheads are the backing band, though not credited on the cover)

  • Title: New Boots and Panties!!

Key Features & Label Variations

  1. Orange Labels: The most common version.

  2. Gray Labels: A slightly less common variation, but from the same year.

Production Credits:

  • Personnel: Ian Dury (Vocals), Chaz Jankel (Guitars/Keyboards), Norman Watt-Roy (Bass), Charley Charles (Drums), Davey Payne (Saxophone).

  • Producer: Laurie Latham, Peter Jenner, and Rick Walton.

  • Mastering: This US version was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York

  • The Cover Art: Features Ian Dury and his son, Baxter Dury, standing outside a clothing shop ("Vogue") on Victoria Street, Westminster.

  • The "Workhouse" Note: On the back cover and labels, there is a cheeky Stiff Records disclaimer: "This record was not produced and recorded at The Workhouse in the Kent Road," which is a joke because it was actually recorded there.

    • 1980 LP Released on Stiff America # USE-2 (Stereo).    .
