Vinyl LP record:

THE WHO "Live At Leeds" (Track 2406 001) original UK 1970 stereo 1st pressing

CLASSIC PROGRESSIVE ROCK RARITY! Lovely copy of this classic live rarity. Hard to find in nice condition and especially hard to find complete insert set - many of which are different to subsequent later pressings. Identifiable as genuine first pressing by the following:

1) FRONT COVER - Un-laminated fold-out brown manilla card cover, with stapled flaps printed by "MacNeill Press Ltd.". Very first pressings came with BLACK print - later versions feature red or blue.

2) LABEL - classic white with BLUE writing, totally crisp with "POLYDOR RECORDS LTD." and "MADE IN GT. BRITAIN" label text

3) MATRIX - 2406001 A//1 and  2406001 B//1  - very earliest 1st press stampers. Vinyl is solid heavyweight pressing, later pressings were thinner.

4) INNER SLEEVE - the "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS" poly-lined inner sleeve which came with Atlantic releases features a tiny date number on the bottom right corner - this states "MADE IN ENGLAND 29  /0770", indicating 1970 release.

5) THE INSERTS - complete with 12 original first press inserts as follows:

1) The Small 'NOTICE' Insert:- It is made on CORRECT 'thinner' paper (later ones are thicker), the print is in Navy Blue (later ones are bright blue), and the writing is in BLACK ink.  It is also worth noting that on the second written line it states 'Mr Lambert - Who' - whereas on many later pressings the word 'Who' is missing!!!!

2) The Small 'DELIVERY NOTE' insert:- It made on CORRECT thin 'typewriter' paper (later ones are thicker normal paper), and the 'typed' text looks EXACTLY as any typewriter would (later ones look obviously printed in dark black!).

3) The 'MY GENERATION LYRICS' typed insert (with handwritten annotiations):- It is made on CORRECT thin 'typewriter' paper (later ones are thicker), has PERFECT typewriter text (later ones are darker and look terrible), the pencil handwritten annotations look EXACTLY like pencil (later ones look obviously printed!) and there are THREE handwritten '*' (stars) - two on the right & 1 on the left (later ones only have two!).

4) The 'KINGS AGENCY' insert:- It is made on CORRECT 'thinner' paper (later ones are thicker). The print is EXACT and the 'Barry Perkins' signature is the absolute PERFECT biro colour and detail (later ones arent!).

5) The 'NEW ACTION LTD' insert:- It is made on CORRECT 'thinner' paper (later ones are thicker), folded along the central line (later ones are NOT), The Action logo is in light grey (later ones arent), the 'New Action Ltd' is in the CORRECT and EXACT shade of Blue, and the handwritten Red Felt Tipped Pen looks EXACTLY correct in colour & detail (unlike later ones which are obviously printed!)

6) The 'HIGH NUMBERS' typed payment insert:- It is made in the CORRECT Yellow Colour (later ones arent!), is made with CORRECT thin 'typewriter' paper (later ones are on thicker normal paper), is folded along the central line (later ones arent), the typewriter text is EXACT (later ones look obviously printed!), and the bottom typewritten line finishes exactly 1 cm above the bottom of the paper (later ones are lower!).

7) The 'PREMIER TALENT ASSOCIATES' Contract Insert:- It is made in the CORRECT Yellow Colour (later ones arent!), is made on CORRECT thin 'typewriter' paper (later ones are on thicker normal paper), the 'Received' stamp at the bottom is PERFECT and COMPLETE (later ones are so badly printed that most of this is missing!), and BOTH signatures at the bottom are EXACTLY correct in colour & detail (later ones arent)!!!!

8) The 'EMI RECORDS' correspondence insert:- It is made on CORRECT thinner paper (later ones are thicker!), and the typeface, EMI Title Colour & 'John Burgess' signature are EXACTLY correct in colour and detail (later ones arent - and look obviously printed!).

9) The 'MARQUEE CLUB' payments insert:- It is made on CORRECT thinner paper (later ones are thicker), the handwritten details are EXACT in detail & blue colour, and the typeface is EXACT (later ones arent!)

10) The Small 'PICTURE OF THE WHO' photograph insert:- ALL faces & background are PERFECT in detail & colour (later ones arent), and IMPORTANTLY every face & eyes of EVERY Who member are FULLY visible and 100% clear (later ones were badly printed, much darker, and lack detail).

11) The 'GUITAR OVERHEAD' (with 'handwritten text' on the reverse) insert:- It is printed on thinner matt paper (later ones are thicker and have a different texture), and the picture is PERFECT in detail (later ones arent). The 'handwritten text' on the reverse is crisp and printed in black.

12) The Large 'MARQUEE' Poster:- Is CORRECTLY printed with a VERY light 'semi-gloss' front (later ones were shiny!) and a HEAVILY textured reverse to the poster (later ones dont - and are either lightly textured - or even shiny).

An essential addition to any progressive psychedelic rock collection! SPECIAL DELIVERY FULLY INSURED POSTAGE INCLUDED IN POSTAGE PRICE!

CONDITION : EX/EX+ (Sleeve/Record)

DESCRIPTION : Record has been very well looked after - one or two paper scuffs, lovely copy. Labels pristine. Fragile cover is generally excellent, very hard to find in nice shape - the only thing detracting is price sticker tear on top right which has removed a tiny part of the stamper design. But not too noticeable since the colour under the sticker tear is the same as the colour above it - see photo! Some light wear to top and bottom spine. Staples totally intact and not rusty!

The inserts are all in really superb condition, everything crisp and flat, edges sharp when originally folded, poster un-used.

A great all round copy for UK 1st press collectors who want to own and enjoy the music!
