This listing is for one (1) 1986 THE MONKEES THEN & NOW... THE BEST OF THE MONKEES LP vinyl record album on Arista Records. This gatefold LP comes from my personal record collection, so it has been handled and stored very carefully. It is used and is in excellent playing condition with just a few visible light/minimal surface scuffs or scratches. The cover shows just a little shelf wear, and the inside jacket shows just a little wear as well. Plays very clean, with just a few audible pops and clicks here and there. To satiate the revival of Monkeemania in the mid-'80's, Arista created this compilation of classic Monkees songs, and included three newly recorded tunes by two of the band members, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork. One of the three new songs, "That Was Then, This Is Now," rather unexpectedly climbed the charts to #20 in 1986 and breathed new life into the old band, which allowed for renewed touring to begin. Davy Jones joined Dolenz and Tork for the tour, but Mike Nesmith declined. The two other new recordings for the album are "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere," and a remake of Paul Revere And The Raiders' "Kicks." Neither were released as singles, but the former is actually a pretty decent song. Also included are 11 of the band's hit singles, "(Theme From) The Monkees," "Last Train To Clarksville," "Take A Giant Step," "I'm A Believer," "(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone," "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You," "The Girl I Knew Somewhere," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," "What Am I Doing Hangin' Round," "Daydream Believer," and "Valleri." This LP reached #21 on the U.S. album chart in 1986, and proved that even after nearly two decades since the band's last meaningful music, fans still wanted more of the Monkees.
