Description
This is an original pressing of their first album, on the Bell label, from 1970. The duo are augmented by a handful of session players, including Clem Cattini, and Big Jim Sullivan. The instrumentation is very varied. Apart from acoustic guitar, bass and drums, on various tracks there is harmonium, ocarina, lute, a brass section, and a snot flute, (honest) Although some of these instrument/s are associated with olde tymes, the songwriting is very contemporary, and the band come across as a rock band, who happen to use acoustic instruments. The one folky exception is 'The Minstrel's Song', where lyrical ballad morphs into progressive flamenco.
The sleeve is EX-, laminated on both sides with the glossiest finish known to man. There are a few mini-creases running to the spine, on both sides. Also a very small corner crease, lower left on the front, lower right on the rear. The edges and spine are virtually unrubbed. The inner appears to be original, and is clean.
The vinyl is clean, shiny and EX-. Aurally, there is nothing to say, the crisp, bright stereo music is crackle-free, and the silences almost so. Visually there is a VERY slight edge warp, which can only be seen as a slight, gentle, rise and fall of the playing arm, for the first couple of tracks, each side. It does not affect play, at all. The labels are clean, with no spindle marks.
